Program Coordinator – Region of Waterloo (one year contract)
About Toronto Cat Rescue:
Toronto Cat Rescue (TCR) is a volunteer-driven, registered charity that rescues over 2500 cats each year through the efforts of over 1,000 dedicated volunteers. TCR is not a shelter, but a network of foster homes that stretches throughout the Greater Toronto Area, and Region of Waterloo. We take in cats who are then socialized and housed in foster homes until they are ready for adoption.

About the position:
The Program Coordinator plays a key role in the day-to-day operations of our Region of Waterloo (WR) chapter. This hands-on position is responsible for managing the WR volunteer centre facility, supporting rescue operations from intake to adoption in the WR area, while liaising with staff to standardize protocols. The ideal candidate is highly organized, compassionate, and experienced in working with animals and volunteers.
As an organization with a large volunteer base, this role will be required to work outside of a traditional 9 – 5 work week. The demands of the role are greatest in the evenings and weekends; however, daytime duties are also required. The selected candidate must be willing to work flexible hours. During the busy season, hours worked beyond 37.5 per week will be negotiated as lieu time with the ED.
Key Responsibilities:
â Volunteer Centre Management: Oversee the daily operations of the volunteer centre, ensuring it is clean, well-organized, and welcoming for both volunteers and cats.
â Cat Intake & Triage: Assess incoming cats for health, behavior, and placement suitability; work with volunteer leads and fosters as needed to ensure proper care plans are in place. Good comprehension of empirical treatment aligned with rescue/shelter medicine best practises
â Store Placement Coordination: Assist in coordinating the placement and rotation of cats in partner retail locations for adoption visibility and care continuity.
â Volunteer Recruitment & Training: Actively recruit, onboard, and train new volunteers to support various aspects of the rescue program, from cat care to administrative support.
â Data Entry & CRM Management: Accurately input and update cat and volunteer records in the organization’s CRM system, ensuring timely follow-ups and reporting.
â Transportation: Coordinate transportation with the assistance of Volunteer drivers to get cats to their next destination
â Team Support: Provide ongoing support to lead volunteers, staff members, and other internal stakeholders to maintain high-quality care and smooth program operations. Qualifications:
â Post-secondary education in animal care discipline required (i.e. Animal Health â Technician or Veterinary Technology program). â Experience working or volunteering in animal rescue, shelter, or veterinary settings
preferred â Strong organizational and multitasking skills â Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities â Proficient in using computers and CRM/database systems, including google suites â Ability to handle cats safely and compassionately, including those who may be fearful or
stressed â Comfortable working weekends or evenings as needed â Must be able to lift up to 40 lbs and perform physical tasks related to cat care â This position requires a valid driver's license and reliable transportation
Other details
Full time salary of $52,000.00 - $55,000.00 per year commensurate with level of education, credentials, and experience. TCR also offers paid vacation and a benefit plan.
Approximately 20% of this position will occur remotely, and the position shares on-call duties with others. On-site work will be required 4 days per week and when there are large rescues, events, and other circumstances which include weekend duties. Travel to Toronto will be required throughout the year for staff meetings, large intakes, and Events Toronto Cat Rescue (TCR) is committed to becoming reflective of the communities we serve.
