The Keewaywin Education Authority is seeking an inspirational, culturally responsive, and community-minded School Principal. As the Chief Administrator, you will oversee day-to-day school operations, lead a dedicated team of educators, manage school budgets, and foster a safe, inclusive learning environment. Crucially, you will act as a bridge between the school and the community, partnering closely with parents, Elders, and Chief and Council to align educational objectives with the community’s vision.

Key Responsibilities

Instructional Leadership: Direct academic programming ensuring alignment with the Ontario Curriculum while weaving in local Indigenous knowledge, land-based learning, and cultural programming.

Staff Management & Development: Recruit, mentor, and evaluate certified teachers and education support staff. Facilitate professional development, including supporting educators new to northern environments.

Community Relations: Actively engage with community Elders, parents, and local leadership. Foster an open-door policy that welcomes community involvement in school events and decisions.

School Administration: Oversee the school budget, maintain accurate records, compile funding proposals/reports, and ensure regular reporting to the Education Authority.

Student Well-being: Foster a positive, safe, and nurturing school climate focused on student attendance, mental well-being, and academic success.

Qualifications & Requirements

Education: Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) is required; a Master of Education (M.Ed.) or equivalent is strongly preferred.

Certification: Current member in good standing with the Ontario College of Teachers (OCT) or eligibility for immediate registration.

Credentials: Principal’s Qualifications (PQP) Part 1 and Part 2 are highly preferred.

Experience: 3 to 5 years of successful teaching experience, with demonstrated leadership or administrative experience (Vice-Principal or Principal roles).

Cultural Competence: Deep understanding of, or a strong willingness to learn about, First Nations culture, history, and the unique contexts of remote northern communities. Experience working within a First Nations school system is a major asset.

Skills: Excellent communication, conflict resolution, and organization skills. Resilience and adaptability required for thriving in a remote, fly-in lifestyle.

Clearances: A current Criminal Record Check with a Vulnerable Sector Screening is mandatory before hiring.
