About the Principal (Director of Operations)
The Principal (known internally as the Director of Operations) is the spiritual, academic, and operational leader of Thunder Bay Christian School. Reporting to the Board of Directors, this individual is responsible for the overall health of the school and community.
This role blends strategic leadership with hands-on administration. The Principal leads the teaching and office staff, supports school committees, and serves as a key liaison to the board, families, and broader school community. A collaborative spirit, servant-leadership mindset, and heart for mentorship are essential.
Specifically, in this role you’d be responsible for:
Instructional Leadership
- Support implementation of the school’s academic vision and goals.
- Ensure instructional practices align with curriculum standards and best practices.
- Support teachers with curriculum content and instructional methodologies.
- Foster relationships with families to create a collaborative approach to support student success.
- Analyze student achievement data, including MAP Growth assessments, to inform curriculum planning and instructional strategies that support student growth.
Leadership & Culture
- Serve as the lead spokesperson and ambassador for the school’s mission, vision, and values.
- Foster a joyful, collaborative, and Christ-centered school culture.
- Model servant leadership and support a spirit of unity among staff, students, and families.
Staff Supervision & Development
- Oversee the teaching and office support staff, promoting accountability and professional growth.
- Lead regular staff meetings and professional development efforts.
- Conduct performance evaluations and plan for future staffing needs in collaboration with HR and the Board.
Student Experience
- Oversee student discipline and culture in collaboration with staff.
- Support the Director of Spiritual Life with chapel and discipleship initiatives.
- Organize key student programs: safety education, Christmas concerts, graduation, etc.
Board & Committee Collaboration
- Serve as a liaison to the Board and attend monthly board meetings.
- Collaborate with committees across transportation, maintenance, HR, and policy.
- Ensure operational alignment with board governance school values.
Operations & Administration
- Determine the annual school calendar and key dates.
- Approve report cards and support academic reporting processes.
- Manage staff attendance records (in partnership with the Finance Manager).
- Ensure adherence to health and safety regulations, including fire/lockdown drills.
Qualifications
Required
- Evidence of a vibrant Christian faith and active membership in a local church.
- Commitment to Christian education and alignment with the TBCS Mission, Vision, and Belief Statements.
- Leadership or administrative experience, preferably in a school or ministry context.
- Self-motivated, energetic, and organized with the ability to plan ahead.
- Able to calmly engage in transparent and responsible decision-making, sometimes on the spot.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
Preferred
- Experience in teaching or school leadership roles
- OCT Certification (Ontario College of Teachers)
- PQP Certification (Principal’s Qualification Program)
- CSTC (Christian School Teacher’s Certificate)
- Familiarity with the Ontario education system (especially private/independent)
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Adobe; adaptable to new technologies and school systems

This is a full-time, year-round, in-person position based in Thunder Bay, Ontario. Hybrid arrangements may be considered during the summer.
