Pre-School Assistant – Part Time
Reporting to the Community Recreation Coordinator, the Preschool Assistant is accountable for assisting in the preparation and implementation of a variety of activities (circle time, free play, crafts, etc.) to assigned classes (children up to age 6), in the pre-school area (all locations).
Job Duties Include
- Assists in implementing a safe, enjoyable and diversified preschool program in coordination with the Preschool Instructor.
- Actively involved in leading and implementing scheduled program activities.
- In accordance with the specific program goals and objectives, delivers a variety of activities (circle time, free play, crafts, etc.) and ensures a high level of quality.
- Assists in implementing special events and theme days.
- Promotes an environment of safety and respect among participants (co-operation, sharing, positive behaviour) and promote individual growth in developmental areas appropriate to participant age (fine/gross motors skills, speech, etc.).
- Maintains ongoing effective communications with parents, public, co-workers and Community Recreation Coordinator.
- Ensures the safety and well-being of all participants during program hours.
- Monitors and controls access to the program and facilities.
- Ensure effective public relations and problem solve as necessary.
- Takes appropriate action to deal with incidents, problems and emergencies, as outlined in the departmental/corporate policies and procedures.
- Provides customer service and recreation education to residents.
- Responds to and records customer feedback forms in accordance with Town of Ajax standards.
Qualifications/Skills
- Completion of Grade 12 high school diploma is required.
- Minimum one year of experience related to the delivery of recreation programs.
- Experience working with preschool age children.
- Excellent organization, time management and planning skills.
- Self-motivated, positive, confident and approachable.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Current Standard First Aid with CPR C certification.
- Able to provide a clear Criminal Reference /Vulnerable Sector check that is current (completed in the last 6 months), upon being hired.
Nice to Have
- College Diploma or University Degree in Early Childhood Education is an asset.
- HIGH FIVE - Principles of Healthy Child Development certification is an asset.
What is Offered to Staff
- Rate of Pay: $19.00 - $20.66 per hour.
- Hours of Work: This is a non-union position that works up to 24 hours per week. The hours of work are Monday to Friday, various shifts between 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m., as well as Mondays and Fridays between 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. and Saturday between 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
