
Policy Advisor
OASW is the voice of the social work profession in Ontario, and our mission is to mobilize mental health and wellbeing across Ontario. OASW is seeking a dynamic and experienced individual with a background in policy or social work to assume the role of Policy Advisor on a 12-month contract (maternity leave coverage). In this position, you will play a key role in the development and implementation of strategies to support the Association’s government relations work and the achievement of OASW’s policy and advocacy goals.
If you are a critical thinker with excellent research, analysis and writing skills as well as proven skills in group consultation and facilitation, this position is well suited to you.

Responsibilities
1. Policy Development
- Write first draft of briefing notes, correspondence, public statements, and government submissions in collaboration with Policy Team.
- Edit and format policy and advocacy documents to ensure clarity, consistency and alignment with established frameworks and strategies.
- Provide support for initiatives that advance the social work profession and its priorities.
2. Research, Analysis and Reporting
- Complete research and analysis from array of sources to monitor issues and trends
- Source relevant data and documents to support advocacy objectives and communications.
- Conduct research and analysis of options and recommendations for key portfolios.
- Report on key outcome-based metrics and support governance requirements.
3. Group Facilitation and Relationship Building
- Build presentations and participate in external meetings.
- Participate and support Advisory Groups including meeting bookings, agenda setting, facilitation of discussions and follow-up actions.
- Support strategic partnerships related to advocacy and policy initiatives.
Qualifications
- Education: Post-secondary degree in related field; MSW (Master’s in Social Work) preferred. Candidates with a social work degree must be registered with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers and a member of the Ontario Association of Social Workers.
- Experience: At least 2 years of related experience. Experience in preparing complex documents and reports.
- Skills: Superior communication skills, both oral and written. Excellent organization and time management skills to juggle multiple priorities within set timelines. Effective group facilitation skills. Proven research and analysis skills.
- Technical Skills: Excellent software and technology application use.

Reports to: Director, Policy, Advocacy & Strategic Communications
Salary: $63,000-$65,000
Contract: 12 months (starting June 2026)
