LOCATION: Hybrid - 54 Wolseley Street, Toronto. 3 days in office.
STATUS: FTE .8 / 4 days per week
SALARY: $112,500 annually (FTE), pro-rated to $90,000 (.8 FTE)

JOB DESCRIPTION
Stella’s Place is seeking an experienced HR professional to fill a vacancy and help position the organization as an employer of choice. Reporting to the Executive Director, you will lead all aspects of HR, including recruitment, employee life cycle management, employee relations, and compliance, while representing the organization to external partners.
You will drive organizational planning and operational excellence, with a focus on HR strategy, process improvement, and internal systems.
This role demands strong leadership, strategic thinking, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. Success requires exceptional judgment, diplomacy, and superior verbal and written communication skills.
ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
HR Leadership & Strategy
- Develop and implement HR policies in compliance with legislation and best practices.
- Partner with the ED and senior leadership to align HR strategies with organizational goals.
- Design and deliver training, career development, and performance management programs.
- Lead diverse and equitable talent acquisition, onboarding, and staff development.
- Developing human resources operations financial strategies by estimating, forecasting, and anticipating requirements
- Provide strategic advice to management on HR policies, compensation, and employee engagement.
- Manage total rewards, including developing compensation structures, and maintaining benefits.
- Foster a culture of respect, transparency, trust, and collaboration across the organization.
- Develop and implement key diversity and inclusion initiatives
Employee Relations and Risk Management
- Address organizational health, morale, turnover, and productivity issues with discretion and professionalism.
- Manage employee relations impartially, maintaining confidentiality and fairness.
- Able to build collaborative relationships with senior leaders through respectful dialogue, strategic communication, and a consistent focus on shared goals and solutions.
- Proactively identify and mitigate HR risks, ensuring compliance and consistency.
- Lead change management, employee communications, and engagement initiatives.
- Serve as a mediator in disputes, promoting resolution through dialogue and shared understanding.
Administrative/Day-to-Day Work
- Coordinate onboarding, orientation, and training to support new hires.
- Communicating with employees and responding to employee queries and needs in a timely, conscientious and confidential way
- Oversee HR systems, HRIS data integrity, and benefits administration.
- Maintain accurate employee data and provide leadership updates on staffing metrics.
- Partner with Payroll, Accounting, and IT to manage payroll updates, assets, and records.
- Chair the staff satisfaction committee and support continuous improvement initiatives.
- Assuring appropriate training and certifications are in place to support operational objectives and strategies
QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS
- Bachelor's degree in human resource management, Business Administration, or a related field
- 7–10 years of progressive HR management experience
- CHRP or other HR designation is preferred
- Knowledge and experience in diversity, equity, and inclusion practices and policy development
- Proven ability to design and implement strategic HR initiatives, organizational development programs, and core HR processes
- Strong knowledge of HR functions, best practices, and relevant legislation
- Demonstrated ethical leadership, integrity, and commitment to confidentiality
- Effective project management, organizational, and time management skills
- Collaborative leadership style with the ability to build trust, foster positive workplace culture, and work constructively with staff and leadership
- Skilled in negotiation, conflict resolution, and problem-solving with sound judgment
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills; able to adapt style to different audiences and remain calm under pressure
- Proven track record of building unity, trust, and a positive workplace culture in high-pressure or high-turnover environments
- Ability to problem solve, making sound judgments and decisions
- Experience with payroll practices and HRIS systems; proficient with Google Suite and MS Office
- Flexible, resourceful, proactive, and able to thrive in a fast-paced environment
- Must be able to deal with others calmly and effectively in high-stress situations
- High attention to detail, accuracy, and discretion in handling sensitive information
- Commitment to ongoing professional development and continuous learning
Preferred Assets:
- Experience mentoring and supporting early-career professionals, including those transitioning from academic to professional roles
- Proven ability to design and implement inclusive HR practices that support employees at all career stages
- Experience in the community mental health sector and/or nonprofit organizations
- Skilled in developing and writing organizational policies, procedures, and guidelines
- Proficiency with Humi HRIS
- Ministry of Labour Certified Joint Health and Safety Committee training
- Bilingual (French & English)
REPORTING AND HOURS
- Reporting to the Executive Director, this is a .8 FTE working 32 hours per week (4 days/week). Stella’s Place hours are Monday to Friday, 10:00a.m. - 6:00p.m. or 12:00p.m. - 8:00p.m. depending on programming.
