About Climate Resilient Communities

Climate Resilient Communities (CRC) is a volunteer-run not-for-profit operating under Transition Toronto. We work at the intersection of community, data & AI, and climate change to strengthen communities' capacity to bounce forward from climate impacts. Our mission is to help community groups effectively advocate for their needs and find solutions to environmental, social, and economic challenges exacerbated by the changing climate.

About the Project

ClimateLens is an evolving initiative at the intersection of climate change, data, and mental health. The project is currently transitioning from a research-focused mandate toward active advocacy — specifically around the mental health impacts of climate change on individuals and communities.

Our MVP roadmap reflects this evolution:

• MVP 1 (completed) — Understanding the the topics discussed about climate change on social media and the climate emotions detected within those conversations

• MVP 2 (in progress) — Understanding the connections between topics discussed about climate change on social media and the climate emotions detected within those conversations, and how these evolve dynamically over time

• MVP 3 — Building a taxonomy of climate anxiety: mapping, categorizing, and surfacing the emotional landscape of how people experience climate-related distress

This shift toward advocacy means ClimateLens is increasingly focused on translating data insights into real-world impact — informing mental health support systems, community conversations, and policy discussions around climate grief and anxiety. The Technical Project Co-lead will be central to building the robust, scalable systems that make this advocacy possible.

Role Purpose

The Partnerships Lead will grow ClimateLens' ecosystem by identifying, engaging, and onboarding the organizations that can help the platform achieve meaningful adoption and advocacy impact. This role is about strategic relationship-building: mapping the landscape of potential partners —

from climate advocacy groups and NGOs to researchers and community collectives — and opening doors that connect ClimateLens to communities who need it most. As the project enters its advocacy phase, this volunteer will be on the front lines of establishing ClimateLens as a trusted, collaborative platform within the broader climate and mental health space.

Key Responsibilities

• Identify and map potential partner organizations — including advocacy groups, NGOs, research institutions, and climate collectives — that align with ClimateLens' mission and could benefit from or amplify its work

• Build and manage a structured outreach pipeline, ensuring timely follow-ups and maintaining clear records of engagement status across all prospective partners

• Pitch ClimateLens to prospective organizations, articulating its value proposition and facilitating introductions to the platform and team

• Explore and develop collaborative opportunities such as co-hosted events, webinars, joint insight reports, or shared advocacy campaigns

• Support the onboarding and ongoing engagement of new partners to ensure they are actively using ClimateLens and deriving value from the relationship

• Collaborate with the Policy Advocate and Communications Lead to ensure partnership efforts are aligned with broader advocacy and outreach goals

Required Qualifications

• Strong communication and relationship-building skills, with confidence in outreach, pitching, and sustained engagement with external organizations

• Demonstrated experience in outreach, partnerships, business development, community engagement, or a closely related field

• Highly organized, with experience managing multi-stage outreach pipelines and tracking engagement across numerous contacts simultaneously

• Strategic thinker who can identify mutually beneficial collaboration opportunities and tailor pitches to different organizational contexts and priorities

• Self-motivated and comfortable working independently in a distributed volunteer environment

Nice-to-Have Qualifications

• Prior experience working with climate advocacy organizations, NGOs, or research institutions

• Background in onboarding or partnership management for early-stage products, platforms, or initiatives

• Familiarity with data-driven tools, civic tech platforms, or evidence-based advocacy work

• Experience in volunteer or distributed team environments within nonprofit or social impact contexts

• Passion for climate justice, mental health awareness, and community-centered impact

Key Deliverables & Success Metrics

Within the first quarter, the Partnerships Lead is expected to:

• Develop a curated list of 20–30 potential partner organizations, complete with contact details and a structured engagement plan

• Complete initial outreach and pitch to at least 10 organizations within the first two months

• Establish at least 2 confirmed partnerships or collaborative commitments within the first three months

• Maintain a live, up-to-date outreach pipeline that is accessible and transparent to the broader team

• Provide regular updates to project leadership on partnership progress, blockers, and emerging opportunities
