Part-time Contract Accountant

BGC Canada is searching for an Accountant to join its finance team on a part-time basis (3 days/week) for an

initial term of six-months. Reporting to the Director, Finance, you will support accounting operations and work

closely with the accounting team.

About the Role

The Accountant contributes to the accurate reporting of revenue and expense and will be expected to play a

role in improving financial systems, management reporting, as well as contribute to identifying risks and

opportunities.

Key responsibilities:
• Support full-cycle accounting operations to include AP, AR, Payroll, Grant Management.
• Provide accurate financial results and analysis on a timely basis for the Executive Leadership Team
• Support the development of project applications and reporting of expenditure to stakeholders.
• Support period end closing and forecast preparation for BGC Canada and related entities.
• Support the Director of Finance with annual budget preparation for BGC Canada and related entities.
• Develop strong internal business partnerships, provide first class support and always responding

promptly to requests.


• Deliver process and system improvements to increase efficiency of day-to-day activities.

Minimum Requirements:

Education, Training and Experience:


• Post secondary degree and has or is currently working towards the Canadian CPA designation.
• Experience in supporting full cycle accounting including payables, receivables, payroll, analysis and

reporting on monthly/quarterly/annual cycles.


• A minimum of three (3) years of proven work experience working within an accounting team.
• High proficiency with Excel (lookups, Power query, graphs).
• Experience with Sage Intacct, Payworks and Salesforce is an asset.
• Experience in payroll processing and reporting is an asset
• Experience within a charity or not-for-profit organization is an asset

• Ability to deliver quality work on tight deadlines, with strong organization and priority setting skills
• Strong mentoring skills and the ability to successfully work within a diverse team.
• Strong interpersonal skills, client-focused thinking and ability to work with all levels
• Knowledge of the Canadian not-for-profit and charitable sector, including statutory legislation, regulations,

reporting and accounting requirements (Canadian Accounting Standards for Not-for-profit Organizations),

is an asset


• Understanding of grant accounting, and federal/provincial funding agency rules & reporting requirements would be an asset


• Strong written and oral communication skills are essential
• Demonstrates BGC Canada’s Core Values (Belonging, Respect, Encouragement & Support, Working

• English/French - bilingualism would be beneficial but not required for the role

Hybrid Working Environment

BGC Canada’s National Team has embraced the hybrid working model. When working from home, the

incumbent must have their own dedicated workspace where they can work comfortably and focus on their

tasks. A space to have confidential conversations or work on confidential documents is essential. The incumbent

must be able to access our Toronto, Ontario, office on a regular basis. BGC Canada will provide the necessary

technology required to work efficiently.
