Part Time Community Support Counsellor (CSC)
(for Church Community) (15 to 20 hours a week estimated)
We are searching for a candidate to provide practical, emotional, counseling support to our values-based community, both in-person and online. The successful candidate will participate in, and provide leadership during, our Sunday gatherings and weekly programs, and will work with a new non traditional leadership team to foster partnerships within the larger community. Sunday Gathering Co-Leadership responsibilities
• Lead “pastoral” aspects of our Sunday service, being mindful of balancing our in- person and online membership.
• Prepare for and lead 2-4 themed talks each year, to be presented during scheduled Sunday gatherings - related to Caring and Connection topics.
Programs and Partnerships
• Liaise with the Executive Director and staff, and attend staff meetings.
• Be the point of contact for others within the community to bring care concerns about members in the community.
• Visit community members and/or their families as needed - in person or via Zoom.
• Potentially train community members for volunteer positions that relate to visitation and wellness support.
• Identify the need for programming that targets specific emotional, psychological and relational care concerns e.g., social connection through a weekly coffee hour.
• Lead weekly programming related to care and connection.
• Support volunteers who lead programs/initiatives related to care and connection (e.g. Crafty Afternoons, Men’s Group, Labyrinth, Dinner with Friends, Outreach).
• Create personal connections (find out interests, offer options of areas to connect/join within the community) while building rapport that allows for pastoral care needs to be shared (i.e., listening, identifying needs). Invite feedback from newcomers about their personal experience of connecting with WHU.
QUALIFICATIONS
• We are looking for a skilled and caring individual with experience in dealing with a primarily older population.
• Demonstrates excellence in group facilitation skills.
• Experience working with the broader community, its leaders, and programs, particularly as it relates to Community Outreach initiatives.
• Able to build and support volunteer teams.
• Knowledge of not-for-profit organization models would be an asset.
• Attuned to diversity, equity and inclusion.
• A variety of professional backgrounds and experiences will be considered, e.g. candidates with backgrounds in Social Work, Nursing, Psychology, Pastoral Care, Counselling, etc., will all be considered.
SALARY: Commensurate with experience and qualifications as recommended by the United Church of Canada and Ontario professional colleges.
