The Ottawa Parent Resource Centre (PRC) supports caregivers and families across Ottawa with responsive, evidence-informed programs and services that strengthen parenting capacity, wellbeing, and connection.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Ottawa Parent Resource Centre’s (PRC) Family Resilience Program is seeking a qualified, bilingual Parenting Group Facilitator to support the delivery, evaluation, and ongoing development of evidence-based parenting programs for families across Ottawa. This role provides direct group-based service delivery—both in-person and virtual—in English and French, while contributing to the growth of sustainable, high-quality parenting programming within the organization.
The Parenting Group Facilitator is responsible for planning and delivering structured parenting workshops, supporting participant engagement from intake through to follow-up, and ensuring fidelity to established evidence-based program models. The role also contributes to program evaluation, data collection, and reporting activities to support continuous improvement and demonstrate impact.
This position requires strong group facilitation and short-term counselling skills, experience working with diverse families, and a collaborative, reflective approach to practice grounded in trauma-informed and strengths-based principles.
REPORTS TO: Family Resilience Program Manager
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Direct Service & Clinical Support
- Plans, prepares, and facilitates structured, evidence-based parenting groups and workshops (in-person and/or virtual) in English and French, ensuring alignment with client needs, community priorities.
- Prepares course materials, adapt content as needed, and create safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environments that support participant retention and success.
- Leads multi-session parenting programs with a focus on participant engagement, retention, and group cohesion.
- Manages group dynamics, including facilitating discussion, navigating sensitive topics, and supporting diverse learning styles.
- Monitors and maintain fidelity to evidence-based group program models (e.g., Triple P, COS-P).
- Provides brief, targeted, on-to-one parent support to compliment group participation virtually, on the phone or in person.
- Manages participant intake processes, including information sharing, screening for readiness, and facilitating appropriate referrals.
- Supports participants throughout the full program cycle from intake and onboarding to ongoing check-ins and post-session follow-up to reinforce learning, address barriers, and promote sustained engagement.
- Conducts follow-ups with participants to reinforce learning, address emerging needs, and connect families to additional support and community resources as appropriate.
Program Design, Evaluation & Continuous Improvement
- Contributes to program evaluation activities, including data collection, participant feedback, and facilitation observations, to support evidence-informed practices.
- Participates in regular reflection, debriefing, and continuous quality improvement processes to strengthen program delivery and outcomes.
- Maintains accurate and timely documentation, and support reporting requirements related to group implementation, participation, and outcomes.
- Contributes to the ongoing development and refinement of parenting group curriculum, tools, and resources to ensure relevance, accessibility, and alignment with evidence-based models.
- Supports the strengthening of sustainable, high-quality parenting programming through collaboration, knowledge sharing, and capacity-building within the team.
Community Development
- Promotes PRC’s mission and Family Resilience Program services to the community.
- Strengthens referral pathways to and from PRC and contributes to integrated community strategies.
- Builds and maintains collaborative relationships with community agencies and stakeholders to improve outcomes for families and priority populations.
Administration
- Works collaboratively with Family Resilience Program staff and other facilitators.
- Keeps up-to-date client flies using approved templates, software and procedures.
- Prepares reports, maintains documentation, and statistical records.
- Keeps all FRP related materials, manuals and handbooks up to date.
- Attends staff, team and supervisory meetings, as established.
- Other duties may be required or assigned.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- Minimum 5 years of progressive experience developing and delivering front-line programs and services for children and families in a community-based or social service setting, with demonstrated ability to support diverse populations.
- Experience delivering crisis support, including assessment, de‑escalation, and referral to appropriate resources.
- Experience in program development and designing curriculum (e.g., session plans, facilitation guides, participant materials), including workshop and group facilitation.
- Demonstrated ability to coordinate and facilitate multi-session parenting or psychoeducational groups.
- Strong skills in group engagement, adult learning principles, and facilitation techniques.
- Experience adapting curriculum for diverse audiences and literacy levels.
- Deliver short‑term, situational counselling related to parenting stressors, family conflict, emotional distress, and mental health concerns.
- Knowledge of early childhood development, child development, and family support approaches, including strengths-based, trauma-informed, and culturally responsive practices.
- Knowledge of—and commitment to—Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, with experience adapting services to be accessible and culturally responsive.
- Working knowledge of relevant legislation and applicable provincial/municipal policies, procedures, and guidelines related to children, families, privacy, and service delivery.
- Ability to work independently while also collaborating with a multidisciplinary team.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as required for group delivery.
Assets
Training/certification in evidence-based parenting models such as:
- Circle of Security Parenting (COS-P) facilitator training
- Triple P – Positive Parenting Program training
- OR comparable evidence-based parenting/attachment/parent coaching
- Use of database software such as Jane
Education
- Post‑secondary education in Social Work, Child and Youth Care, Early Childhood Education, Family Studies, Psychology, or a related field, or equivalent experience
Language
- Fluency in English, oral and written required.
- Fluency in French, oral and written required.
Additional Requirements
- Criminal Reference Check for the Vulnerable Sector is required
- Maintain all required professional accreditation/credentials in good standing
Salary $32.50/hour
