Baycrest is dedicated to defeating dementia and transforming the future of aging. Consider becoming a volunteer today to support our mission to help older adults make their later years the best years of their lives. As a volunteer, you will have the opportunity to:
  • Gain experience in a healthcare setting
  • Interact with clients, healthcare professionals, and researchers
  • Access unique volunteer opportunities and learn new skills
We are currently recruiting Palliative Care Volunteers. Palliative Care focuses on relieving suffering and enhancing the quality of living and dying for individuals with life-limiting terminal illnesses, as well as supporting their families. This care aims to help individuals live as comfortably and thoroughly as possible.

The end of life is a significant stage in a person's journey, often filled with many emotions and thoughts. One of the volunteers' most valuable contributions is to be a listener. This supportive presence is part of the patient and family’s team without being a medical team member. Volunteers offer companionship, emotional support, encouragement, comfort, and assistance to individuals facing death and their families.

To schedule your interview, please complete the following steps:
1. Submit your online application and register for an orientation.
2. Attend a Baycrest Volunteer Orientation.
3. Complete the online eLearning modules. A link will be emailed to you after the orientation session. The modules cover:
  • Accessibility and the Customer Service Standards
  • Accessibility and the Human Rights Code
  • Infection Prevention and Control for Volunteers
  • Managing Responsive Behaviors
  • Patient Safety
  • Privacy for Volunteers
  • Workplace Violence, Workplace Harassment, and Domestic Violence
4. Obtain a signed reference form, which can be downloaded from our website.
5. Submit a completed and physician-signed immunization record, also downloadable from our website.
6. Provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination (two doses).
7. If you are 18 or older, submit a police check, including a vulnerable sector screening. For forms and more information, please email or call volunteer services. You will be reimbursed for this cost after six months of volunteering.
