Family Councils Ontario (FCO) works with long-term care home residents' families, Family Councils, and home staff across Ontario to enable them to cultivate positive relationships, build effective Family Councils, and improve the long-term care experience. Our mission is to lead and support families in improving quality of life in long-term care. Through collaboration with families, care home staff, and sector partners, we aim to create a safe, vibrant, inclusive, and respected long-term care system.
As a registered charitable nonprofit funded by the Ontario Ministry of Long-Term Care, we support Family Councils through direct consultation, education, training, and resource development. From hosting workshops to producing educational content, we are committed to strengthening the voice of families in long-term care.
To support this mission, we are seeking an Outreach Coordinator located in Southwestern Ontario.
The Role:
As Outreach Coordinator, you’ll be the first point of contact for many families and council members. You’ll support them through outreach, education, and personalized consultations—helping councils grow, solve problems, and strengthen their relationships with long-term care homes. This role is ideal for someone passionate about community engagement, adult learning, and strengthening families' voices in long-term care.
This position is specific to the Southwestern Ontario region.
Key responsibilities include:
- In-person presentations, consultations, workshops, coaching, and conflict resolution at sites within Southwestern Ontario (London, Sarnia, Windsor, Kitchener-Waterloo-Guelph and surrounding areas)
- Serve as a main point of contact for families and council members via phone, email, and online platforms
- Lead outreach efforts to raise awareness of Family Councils and promote FCO programs and services
- Support the development and sustainability of new and existing Family Councils
- Distribute educational materials including handbooks, factsheets, and digital content
- Provide consultations to council members and staff to support problem-solving, relationship-building, and council development
- Facilitate workshops and presentations to build skills and knowledge among council members and long-term care staff
- Deliver virtual and in-person presentations, webinars, and attend community events
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with long-term care home staff and leadership
- Identify and support opportunities for collaboration between homes and Family Councils
- Track outreach activities, inquiries, and impact metrics
- Prepare regular reports and contribute insights to support continuous improvement
- Work closely with the Programs Director and Communications Manager to align outreach efforts with organizational goals
- Contribute to team planning and share feedback from the field to inform strategy
Qualifications
- Post-secondary education in Community Development, Communications, Gerontology, Social Work, or a related field
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in outreach, stakeholder engagement, or client support—ideally in a non-profit or health care setting
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written; French/English bilingualism is an asset
- Strong organizational and time-management skills
- Tech-savvy and comfortable with CRMs, MS Office, Zoom, and social media platforms
- Comfortable working evenings and flexible hours

Position Details:
Salary is: $60,000 annually.
Benefits: Participation in the OPTrust Select pension plan (3% matched contributions). Health and dental benefits.
Typical weekly hours are Monday-Thursday 9 AM-5 PM. Flexible hours are available.
Availability: Must be available to work Monday-Thursday 9 AM-5 PM with occasional overtime, travel, or evening commitments.
