Board Director Opportunities Ottawa Chamber Music Society (OCMS) also known as Ottawa
Chamberfest is currently seeking four candidates to join its Board of
Directors as of January 1, 2026.
About the Board The Ottawa Chamberfest Board consists of up to 15 passionate music
enthusiasts and community leaders dedicated to the mission of changing
lives through music. Directors provide strategic leadership, oversee the
organization’s management and operations, and support fundraising and
investment initiatives. Ideal candidates demonstrate a commitment to
community engagement, collaborative teamwork, and possess governance
experience or expertise in related fields. New directors will contribute their
skills and insight to shape the organization’s future and support its
sustainability.
Desired Skills and Experience
The Board is especially interested in candidates with skills in:
• Financial management
• Accounting
• Fundraising
• Community engagement
• Marketing and communications
Board Responsibilities Directors participate in monthly Board meetings and serve on committees
such as Governance, Finance and Fundraising. Each term of office is two
years, with the possibility of renewal for a second and third term.
Key Responsibilities include:
• Strategic Oversight: Guide the OCMS team to align with the mission
and contribute to Ottawa’s cultural and educational needs.
• Financial Stewardship: Oversee OCMS assets and financial
resources, including budgeting, management, risk assessment, and
fundraising initiatives.
• Governance and Compliance: Ensure adherence to legal and
ethical standards and promote transparency and accountability.
• Fundraising and Resource Development: Support resource
acquisition and leverage professional networks to secure funding.
Director Nominee Qualifications
• Experience with board governance
• Background in public, private, or not-for-profit sectors
• Communications and marketing expertise
• Strong interpersonal skills
• Reflect diversity of the Ottawa community and uphold equity,
diversity, and inclusion
• Strategic decision-making abilities
• Willingness to act as an advocate in external networks
• Collaborative and partnership-minded
• Knowledge or appreciation of music
• Bilingualism in English and French is considered an asset
Key Expectations
• Attend Board and committee meetings and participate in strategic
initiatives
• Uphold integrity and ethical standards
• Promote diversity and inclusion in Board activities
• Engage with Ottawa stakeholders as appropriate
• Represent the organization and attend events
