About Capital Rainbow Refuge (CRR)
Capital Rainbow Refuge (CRR) is a small but growing registered charity dedicated to supporting and sponsoring LGBTQI+ refugees fleeing persecution. Through volunteer-led private sponsor groups, advocacy, training, and community-building, we help LGBTQI+ newcomers arrive and thrive in Eastern Ontario. As we expand our impact, we seek a dynamic Operations and Managing Director to lead our organization through this exciting phase of growth and transformation.
The Role
Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Operations and Managing Director will oversee CRR’s operations, strategy, and sustainability. This position requires a visionary, empathetic, and results-oriented leader who thrives in a collaborative environment. The ideal candidate will have strong leadership skills, financial acumen, and the ability to manage competing priorities using an inclusive approach.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategy & Leadership: Implement CRR’s strategic plan, monitor and evaluate progress, and identify growth opportunities.
- Operations & Programs: Manage projects and grants, and cultivate funding opportunities in collaboration with the fundraising committee.
- Financial Management: Ensure fiscal sustainability through budgeting, fundraising, and grant applications.
- HR & Team Leadership: Lead a small, dedicated team, fostering a supportive and inclusive culture.
- Governance & Compliance: Serve as the primary liaison to the Board of Directors, supporting governance, reporting, and stakeholder engagement.
- Community Engagement & Advocacy: Strengthen relationships with stakeholders and partners, establish new strategic partnerships, increase CRR’s visibility through public engagements and outreach, and advocate for LGBTQI+ refugee rights and robust settlement support.
What We’re Looking For
- Minimum 3 years of leadership experience, within the non-profit or charitable sector, including oversight of staff, volunteers, and cross-functional teams.
- Demonstrated financial stewardship skills, including annual budgeting, multi-year financial planning, and compliance with charitable sector financial policies and reporting requirements.
- Proven experience with managing grant lifecycles, including proposal development, stakeholder engagement, grant reporting, performance measurement, and ensuring deliverables and expenditures align with funding agreements. Project management experience, an asset.
- Knowledge of board governance and experience supporting board committees, including preparing briefing materials, presenting financial and program updates, and contributing to governance best practices.
- Experience overseeing program portfolios, including design, implementation, evaluation, and continuous improvement grounded in community needs and equity principles.
- Demonstrated commitment to inclusive team leadership.
- Experience in community outreach and stakeholder engagement.
- Passion for LGBTQI+ refugee rights, diversity, and social justice.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English; French is an asset.
- Familiarity with Canada’s refugee sponsorship system and newcomer resources is an asset.
What We Offer
- Salary $80,000 to $85,000 + benefits annually.
- Full-time, 37.5 hours per week
- Flexible hybrid work arrangement, with in-person team meetings and co-working in central Ottawa.
- Four weeks of vacation, personal days, and sick leave.
- Monthly stipend for internet and phone expenses.
