About Us:
The On Your Mark Academic Support Program offers tutoring sessions to Spanish and Portuguese-speaking heritage students from the Toronto Catholic and District School Boards, grades 1 to 12.
We serve over 200 students and welcome 200 volunteers each year, aiming to support the improvement of our student’s academic performance, reversing the cycle of disadvantage. Join us and be part of our story, making a real difference in our students’ lives!

Position Available:
ONLINE VOLUNTEER TUTOR (After-school hours and/or Saturday, grades 1-12)
Reports to: Program Coordinators
Time Commitment: Online, after-school (minimum 2 hours per week); After-school program runs Monday to Friday from 4:30pm to 6:30pm (times can vary based on student need, ie. 5:00pm to 6:30pm)
OR
Online, Saturday (minimum 2 hours per week); Saturday program runs every Saturday from 10:00am to 12:00 pm. (times can vary based on student need, ie. 10:00am to 11:00am)
The program starts at the end of October 2025 and runs until the end of May 2026 and we accept applications all year round.
Tutors will work closely with elementary and/or secondary students within the Toronto Catholic and District School Boards and are responsible for providing educational assistance and guidance to their students.
Responsibilities:
- Provide assistance (in English) with homework, assignments, and other areas of studies where children may be experiencing difficulties, specifically Math and/or English on a weekly basis.
- Work in cooperation, via email, with Program Coordinator(s), school staff (if applicable) and parents (if applicable) to develop a work plan that is best suited to students’ needs.
- Maintain a positive and enthusiastic attitude towards education and learning and be a positive role model for your student(s).
- Follow all policies and procedures as outlined by OYM staff throughout the school year.
Expectations/Criteria:
- Must have excellent communication skills in English
- A current student or graduate of a secondary or post-secondary institution.
- Ability to help students in Language and/or Math and/or Science between grades 1-12. Volunteers can specify subject area/grade of strength.
- Some experience working with children and/or youth at the elementary and/or high school level is an asset.
- Committed, reliable and interested in making a difference in the lives of children and/or youth.
- Support sessions are done in ENGLISH. Knowledge of Portuguese and/or Spanish is an asset but NOT necessary.
- Tutors/ Supervisors and students meet online a minimum of once a week for 2 hours.All volunteers are welcome to volunteer as many days as they choose, with the minimum being a commitment of one day a week. Time frame may vary based on student need.
- All volunteers must have a computer reliable internet connection, a quiet place to run the session with camera ON.
- Minimum age of 17.
- Reside in Canada for at least 3 months.
- Vulnerable Sector Screening is requested to ensure a safe learning environment. All applicants must reside in Canada for at least 3 months. If the applicant has been in Canada for less than 3 months, they can present a police clearance from their country of origin to start in the program, however, a police check from Canada will still be needed.*
*Costs related to police clearance are covered by OYM.

The program starts October 2025 and ends May 2026. We accept applications all year.
AFTER-SCHOOL HOURS: Online, Monday to Friday, from 4:30PM to 6:30PM
SATURDAY HOURS: Online, Saturday, from 10:00AM to 12:00PM.
