Board / Committee Member
Unpaid Volunteer Position

The Ontario College of Family Physicians (OCFP) is inviting nominations for new members to join its Board of Directors.

Help make practicing better, champion the value of family physicians, and lead the way toward a stronger health care system in Ontario.

Serving on the Board of Directors of the OCFP is a meaningful opportunity to shape the future of family medicine, contribute to system-wide impact, and support family physicians at every stage of practice. This is a volunteer role.

Why Volunteer as a Board Director?

As a Board Director, you will:

  • Influence the future of family medicine in Ontario by contributing to the OCFP’s mission and strategic priorities
  • Support family physicians through leadership, advocacy, education, and research
  • Apply your experience, skills, and perspectives to effective governance and organizational stewardship
  • Collaborate with committed leaders from across the province

Who We Are Seeking

The OCFP welcomes nominations from family physicians and non‑family physicians who bring expertise and lived experience in one or more of the following areas:

  • Government relations and public policy
  • Digital health and artificial intelligence
  • Professional development and curriculum design
  • Family physicians in their first five years of practice

We strongly encourage applications from individuals who bring diverse perspectives, backgrounds, and experiences that reflect the communities served by family physicians across Ontario.

Annual Time Commitment

Board service requires a thoughtful but manageable commitment:

  • Two in person meetings (1.5 days each), held in downtown Toronto
  • Three virtual full-day meetings
  • Committee participation: 4-6 meetings annually (approximately on hour each, virtual)

Directors are appointed to two- or three-year terms, with the option to renew for a maximum of six years in total. Terms begin in September 2026.

About the OCFP Board

  • The Board is comprised of 13-16 Directors from across Ontario
  • Approximately 75% of Directors are family physicians
  • The Board is skills-based, with Directors selected to bring complementary expertise and perspectives
  • The OCFP is a not-for-profit organization
  • Board Directors serve as unpaid volunteers; travel expenses for meetings are reimbursed
