Our Climate, Your Future

Affine Climate Solutions (Affine) is looking for a detail-loving, rigorous, collaborative Accounting Specialist to help our organization thrive and contribute to the transition to a sustainable future.

Affine is a non-profit climate consultancy that bridges the gap between climate-aligned building transformation and sustainable real estate finance. We reshape how buildings and infrastructure are designed, improved, and financed. Our solutions prove that profitability and climate responsibility are mutually reinforcing. Our clientele and partners are broad, ranging from affordable housing providers to financial institutions — from development corporations and SMEs to First Nations communities.

The Opportunity

Our Board & Executive Director are leading and scaling up our team to support building owners and financial institutions with decarbonization, climate risk management, and sustainable finance innovation. For this position at the crossroads of grant reporting, project accounting, and financial reporting you’ll provide hands-on financial assistance to a climate focused non-profit, ensuring our financial operations align with best practices and grant requirements.

Join a passionate, mission-driven team making a real difference in decarbonization and sustainable finance innovation across BC and Canada.

Responsibilities

  • Grant Reporting: Manage grant reporting processes, ensuring accurate fund accounting, compliance, and accurate and timely reporting to federal and provincial funding agencies.
  • Project Accounting: Oversee financial tracking and reconciliation for retrofits and other projects. This includes validating invoices and monitoring budget-to-actuals.
  • Financial Reports: Prepare annual budgets, forecasts, and quarterly reports for the Board of Directors. Support the preparation of year-end financial statements and ad hoc financial analyses as needed.
  • Bookkeeping and Accounting Support: Issue client invoices and assist our bookkeeper with monthly financial documentation, reconciliations, and month-end close processes.
  • Administration and Internal Controls: Evaluate and enhance financial documentation practices and internal control systems. Provide administrative support as needed.

Experience

  • 3+ years of non-profit accounting experience, including grant management and compliance with federal and provincial funding requirements.
  • Hands-on experience in bookkeeping and financial reporting.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related discipline; equivalent work experience will also be considered.
  • Strong knowledge of non-profit financial principles, including fund accounting, and federal and provincial grant reporting and compliance.

Value-added qualifications

  • Prior non-profit experience preferred.
  • Proficiency in financial accounting software QuickBooks Online is an asset.
  • Experience with project management, time tracking, and invoicing software Deltek Ajera is an asset.

You’re a Great Fit if you

  • Are collaborative and have a self-motivated work style.
  • Excel at managing multiple tasks simultaneously and meet deadlines.
  • Are highly organized and detail oriented.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Can analyze data, spot errors, and solve problems with accuracy and creativity.

What’s in it for you

  • Meaningful Impact: Join a mission-driven organization that delivers real world decarbonization projects. Contribute to innovative projects that empower businesses to manage climate risk and enhance building resilience.
  • Supportive Work Culture: We place a great deal of importance on offering our team the chance to grow and lead fulfilling lives both at work, and at home. We believe that how we work together is as important as the work we do.
  • Competitive Compensation: Annual salary range of $60,000 - $80,000 commensurate with experience and qualifications.
  • Comprehensive Benefits: Enjoy a generous health and RRSP benefits package and flexible work options.
  • Contract Details: This is a temporary, full-time position through March 2027, with the possibility of extension based on organizational needs and funding.
  • Location: Flexible but being in Vancouver is an asset.

We’re growing our team with individuals from diverse backgrounds because we believe in the benefits of diversity of thought, creativity, innovation, new perspectives and ideas – and we want to offer the same to our clients.

We are committed to building teams based on qualifications, merit, and business needs. If we can make things easier through accommodation in the recruitment process, please let us know.
