Nominations Committee Members
The College of Midwives of Ontario is responsible for regulating the profession of midwifery in Ontario in the public interest. The College sets and upholds high standards of practise for midwives and acts when risks to the public are identified. Our primary obligation is to ensure that midwives in Ontario are qualified, skilled, and competent to practise so that clients can be confident in the care they receive. The work of the College is directed by its Board of Directors, which is composed of elected professional members and members of the public appointed by the Lieutenant Governor.
NOMINATIONS COMMITTEE OPPORTUNITY
The College’s Board of Directors has recently approved the establishment of a Nominations Committee and is looking to recruit and appoint 3-4 persons to the Committee. The Nominations Committee is a new non-statutory committee responsible for facilitating recruitment, appointments, and elections processes for the College’s Board and Committees, in alignment with the College’s By-laws, policies, and reporting requirements.
We are looking for:
- Registrants – midwives with any class of registration other than the transitional, supervised, or emergency class who are not current Board Directors. OR
- Members of the Public – individuals who are not midwives. Preference will be given to individuals with expertise and/or experience in areas such as equity, diversity, and inclusion, human resources, and board/governance.
SCOPE OF WORK AND TIME COMMITMENT
The duties of the Nominations Committee include, but are not limited to:
- Making annual Committee and Committee Chair recommendations to the Board.
- Conducting annual assessments of skills and attributes to determine gaps in the composition of the Committees, and to participate in the process for the selection of Board and non-Board members to fill identified gaps.
- Implementing attributes and skills-based recruitment, appointments, and elections processes, guided by Board and Committee-specific needs assessments and skills profiles.
- Ensuring appropriate turnover and renewal of leadership positions through formalized mechanisms for Board and Committee Chair succession.
- Contributing to the identification and recruitment of prospective candidates for Board and Committee positions.
- Conducting screening and vetting of candidates seeking election to the Board of Directors or appointment to statutory and non-statutory committees, ensuring they meet the suitability and eligibility criteria as approved by the Board.
- We anticipate that the expected time commitment will be approximately 4 half-day meetings per year, subject to change. All meetings will be conducted via videoconference.
HONORARIUM
Committee members are compensated by honorarium for the time that they spend attending meetings, preparing for meetings, and participating in activities related to their role. A summary of compensation and allowable expenses can be found in Schedule 1 of the College’s Fees and Remuneration By-law.
TERMS OF APPOINTMENT
Committee appointments are for one-year and renewable annually up to a maximum of six consecutive years. The anticipated start date is March 1, 2026.
