Board / Committee Member
Unpaid Volunteer Position

The 2026 Kingston-Belleville MS Walk is back on Sunday, May 31st, 2026, at Lake Ontario Park and Pavilion (920 King Street West, Kingston, ON)!

MS Walk is a one-day event happening in over 50 in-person locations in Canada where people living with and/or affected by multiple sclerosis come together. Whether you live with MS or know someone who does, MS Walk is the best place to forge meaningful connections and build lifelong relationships that bring us closer toward a world free of MS.

As part of the MS Walk Committee, you will plan and execute an inclusive, engaging event to connect and empower the MS community in your region. MS impacts all Canadians, which is why we urge people to move forward together at MS Walk and help build awareness for the disease, raising much needed funds to allow us to continue to support people affected by MS. This is a great opportunity to make an impact in your community using your talent and time.

The Volunteer Coordinator will work closely with the team at MS Canada to ensure we have support from a fantastic group of Day of Event Volunteers. You will have the opportunity to connect with your local community to recruit enough volunteers to fill various volunteer roles and lead them on event day.

Responsibilities:

  • Identify the volunteer positions needed, as well as the required number of volunteers required to successfully execute the local Walk plan
  • Recruit Event Day Volunteers with the support of the MS Canada Volunteer Experience team to ensure there are enough volunteers to support the event
  • Assign volunteers to various volunteer roles based on their interests and strengths
  • Clearly communicate to each volunteer their role, responsibilities, start/end times before the event weekend
  • Ensure that all volunteers check in, then report to their lead for instruction and support
  • Be agile on event day, track volunteer’s activities during the event and reposition volunteers as needed to provide the best coverage
  • Recognize volunteers for their contributions on the day and post-event
  • Champion the Walk in your community by promoting the event and helping to recruit participants and day-of-event volunteers

Interested? Here’s what we’re looking for:

  • Energized, positive attitude. A friendly face helps create a fun atmosphere
  • Strong leadership, communication, organizational and customer service skills
  • Passion for supporting the MS Community and funding MS research
  • Basic computer proficiency including email, internet searches, Word, Excel
  • Self-motivated and reliable; able to fulfill duties on time
  • Must be comfortable making decisions and problem solving with limited supervision.
  • Previous experience managing people is considered an asset

Time Commitment:

  • Hours will vary based on the size of your community event. Hours will increase as the event approaches. We estimate these roles will take between 1 – 3 hours per month.
  • Meet online via Teams once or twice a month
  • Must be available to attend the event on Sunday, May 31st, 2026 for approximately 8 hours.

Why Volunteer?

  • Gain valuable experience and skills by supporting the organization of a well-recognized signature event while working with experienced organizing team members and comprehensive resources
  • Contribute your time to an important cause and see your impact on the organization.
  • Obtain a reference letter
  • Build a strong network and connect with the MS community
