Role Purpose The UI/UX Designer (Mobile) will create intuitive, engaging, and accessible mobile experiences for the Climate Stories Map (https://climatestories.palce, https://crc.place/climate-stories-map/)—an interactive platform that collects and visualizes real stories from communities affected by climate change around the world. This role is essential for translating climate stories into visually appealing and user-friendly interfaces that serve a global, diverse audience. You will ensure that the platform is accessible, emotionally resonant, and easy to navigate, enabling communities worldwide to share their experiences and connect through their climate stories. Key Responsibilities

Design user-centered mobile experiences for the Climate Stories Map platform:
• Mobile-First Interface Design: Design mobile-first interfaces for story submission,

map exploration, and data visualization that are intuitive and engaging
• Design Deliverables: Develop user flows, wireframes, prototypes, and interactive

mockups to guide developers and communicate design intent
• User Research: Conduct user research and usability testing to ensure the platform

meets the needs of diverse communities and storytellers

• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate with developers and the product manager to translate designs into functional, technically feasible features

• Design Systems: Ensure accessibility, responsiveness, and consistent design patterns across the platform for a cohesive user experience

Additional responsibilities include:

• Create and maintain design documentation, style guides, and component libraries
• Iterate on designs based on user feedback, analytics, and usability testing results
• Consider the emotional and cultural dimensions of climate storytelling in design

decisions
• Advocate for user needs and accessibility throughout the product development

process
• Design for diverse contexts, including varying connectivity, device capabilities, and

user literacy levels
• Contribute to the visual identity and branding of the Climate Stories Map platform

Required Qualifications

• Experience designing mobile interfaces and responsive web applications
• Proficiency with design and prototyping tools (Figma, Sketch, Adobe XD, or similar)
• Strong understanding of user-centered design principles, information architecture,

and interaction design
• Experience conducting user research and usability testing with diverse user groups
• Ability to collaborate effectively with developers, product managers, and other

volunteers in a distributed team environment
• Portfolio demonstrating mobile design work and user-centered design process

Nice-to-Have Qualifications

• Background in environmental, climate, or storytelling projects
• Knowledge of map-based or geospatial UI design patterns
• Familiarity with accessibility standards (WCAG) and inclusive design principles
• Experience working in volunteer or distributed teams in nonprofit or social impact

contexts
• Skills in visual design, branding, or motion/interaction design
• Understanding of responsive design frameworks and mobile development constraints
• Experience designing for multilingual or multicultural audiences
• Passion for climate justice, community empowerment, and participatory storytelling

• Mobile-first design system with comprehensive wireframes, prototypes, and

interactive mockups for key user journeys
• User flows and information architecture that enable intuitive story submission and

map exploration
• Usability testing insights and design iterations that improve user engagement and

accessibility
• Design documentation and style guides that enable consistent implementation by

developers

• Accessible, responsive interface designs that meet WCAG standards and serve diverse global communities
