ABOUT THE BLACK 2SLGBTQ+ MENTAL HEALTH INITIATIVE

Part of PPT’s Black Health Team, the Black 2SLGBTQ+ Mental Health Initiative will provide accessible, trauma-informed, and culturally competent mental health supports to Black and QTBIPOC youth in community-based locations in North York and Scarborough, and virtually. This initiative also involves working with PPT’s Health Equity Health Promoter and a Black Youth Advisory Committee to create capacity building resources for service providers working with Black and QTBIPOC youth. https://ppt.on.ca/As the Mental Health Therapist with the Black 2SLGBTQ+ Mental Health program, you’ll be a core member of a specialized clinical team committed to delivering accessible, anti-oppressive, and gender-affirming psychotherapy to youth. You’ll support young people in navigating life’s complexities and build tools for wellness and resilience in ways that are culturally rooted and community informed.
You’ll also:
â Provide short-term (3 – 5 sessions), longer-term (10 – 20 sessions) and single session psychotherapy (1 session) to individuals, and couples with a focus on Black and QTBIPOC youth.
â Facilitate therapy groups and mental health workshops. â Collaborate with our Black Youth Advisory Committee and Health Equity Health
Promoter, and other members of our Black Health Team to shape programming and develop resources.
â Advocate for youth by connecting them with primary and specialized care, strengthening referral pathways.
â Work in interdisciplinary teams to respond to the real, intersectional needs of youth in Toronto.
Additional Responsibilities:
â Maintain accurate, timely and confidential electronic documentation in accordance with professional standards, agency policies, and relevant privacy legislation (e.g., PHIPA).
â Provide client-centered, trauma-informed, culturally competent, and gender-affirming care through a hybrid model of service delivery, including virtual platforms and some in- person sessions.
â Participate in case conferences and interprofessional consultations to develop coordinated care plans and ensure access to appropriate internal and external resources.
â Practice in alignment with the standards and ethical guidelines of the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW) and/or the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO).
â Serve as a resource and support for colleagues, students and volunteers, sharing expertise and contributing to a learning-centered organizational culture.
â Engage in regular clinical supervision with a licensed external supervisor contracted by PPT, supporting reflective practice and professional growth.
â Collaborate with community partners and service providers to address client needs, strengthen referral pathways, and build partnerships that enhance care
â Contribute to the review and continuous improvement of health service procedures and participate in the development and refinement of policies and practice guidelines.
â Co-maintain client-facing tools and informational materials, such as the Mental Health Services Client Information Package and Mental Health Support Handout, ensuring content is current, accessible and inclusive.
â Support evaluation and quality improvement efforts by participating in client satisfaction and health outcome measurement practices
â Actively participate as a member of a multidisciplinary team, contributing to a collaborative, equity-driven, and client-centered work environment aligned with the mission statement and values of Planned Parenthood Toronto
â Engage in ongoing professional development to stay current with emerging research, practices and regulatory requirements in mental health, health equity and culturally responsive care.
â Available to work 1 evening a week.
QUALIFICATIONS
â Current registration in good standing with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW) and/or the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO)
â Master’s degree in social work, psychology, or a related field from a recognized post- secondary institution
â Minimum 3-5 years of experience providing psychotherapy preferably in a community- based primary care, or sexual health setting.
â Identifies as Black and/or QTBIPOC, including those with intersecting Indigenous and/or other racialized identities, in alignment with the focus and goals of the Black 2SLGBTQ+ Mental Health program.
â Experience working with youth and 2SLGBTQ+ populations, including an understanding of the unique health needs and social determinants that affect Black youth, 2SLGBTQ+ youth, and BIPOC youth.
â Training in short-term psychotherapy approaches (e.g., Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, Brief Narrative Therapy)
â Training in single-session or one-time psychotherapy models â Experience and training in trauma-specific psychotherapy â Experience supporting clients around issues related to sexual orientation, gender identity
and gender expression. â Strong skills in assessment, psychotherapy and psychosocial counselling with
individuals, couples, and groups. â Proven ability to respond effectively to crises, including experience and training in suicide
risk assessment and intervention. â Thorough understanding of the impacts of systemic oppression, including anti-Black and
anti-Indigenous racism, on youth mental health and well-being â Clear commitment to sexual and reproductive justice, health equity, and youth positive,
2SLGBTQ positive, sex positive, and sex work positive practice â Experience working from a community development perspective â Strong ability to work collaboratively in an interdisciplinary, community-based team
environment. â Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills. â Proficiency with electronic medical records and comfort working in a digital environment
