Location: Metlakatla, BC and Prince Rupert, BC - Onsite

Reporting to: Executive Director

POSITION SUMMARY

The Membership and Social Development Clerk will be responsible for administering the Social Development program for the Metlakatla First Nation and assisting Metlakatla members with a variety of membership tasks including registration, card issuing and replacement, and maintaining the Metlakatla Band List. You will maintain a high level of confidentiality as it relates to the information being processed.

Responsibilities

Membership:

  • Maintain the First Nation Register and Band List for Metlakatla First Nation in accordance with the Indigenous Services Canada legislation and all other governing bodies, policies, and associated procedures
  • Note any inconsistencies in the First Nation’s Register and advise the associated responsible personnel and departments of any required changes
  • Assist individuals who are applying for Indian Status or to become a Band member
  • Provide information to applicants on the application of policies and procedures related to the application for status
  • Obtain and examine supporting documents to determine their acceptability for registration
  • Issue Metlakatla Status Cards for authorized individuals in accordance with departmental policies and procedures
  • Liaise with Provincial and Federal Departments and Agencies to facilitate the provision of services to First Nations clients
  • Create, maintain, and review an event reporting system for documents gathered monthly
  • Successfully complete Indian Registration Administrators (IRA) training through Indigenous Services Canada (ISC)
  • Track changes in policy and legislation regarding registration and eligibility

Social Development:

  • Follow policies and regulations of ISC to ensure clients eligible for assistance have their basic and shelter needs met
  • Meet with potential clients and receive and process all documents required to ensure eligibility for assistance
  • Meet with clients to discuss their completed job search if employable and sign their monthly renewal form
  • Conduct an audit of job searches to ensure an adequate job search form was completed and submits a monthly spreadsheet to finance with payments for clients
  • Assist in the promotion of education, training, and employment opportunities that may lessen the need for Social Assistance for clients living on reserve
  • Complete necessary reports on financial distribution to clients to ISC

What You Bring:

  • High School Diploma or a GED with relevant work experience
  • Experience working in and with the Indigenous community preferred

Other:

  • Willing to participate in personal and professional development
  • Willing to travel for training related to the position
  • Follow Metlakatla policies and procedures
  • Criminal Record Check with a satisfactory result

Application:

  • Wage range: $24.30 - $27.00 per hour
  • Hours of work: 35 hours per week
  • Schedule: Monday to Thursday from 8:30 am-5:00 pm, and Friday from 8:30 am-1:00 pm
