About Trial Lawyers Association of BC
Founded in 1980, TLABC is a not‐for‐profit society with a proud history and a current voluntary membership base of 1,700+ legal professionals leading diverse practices throughout the province. Our members represent individuals rather than corporations, governments or other large entities. Practice areas include family, employment and immigration law, wills and estates, criminal defence, and personal injury litigation. Members are united with the goals of protecting the rights of individuals, ensuring access to the courts, preserving the jury system and promoting the highest standards in legal education.
Position Overview
The Member Services Coordinator supports the Chief Operating Officer in the recruitment and retention of trial lawyers across British Columbia through a dynamic, multi-faceted approach. Together the Coordinator and COO make up the Association’s dedicated Membership team, working closely to sustain membership growth and enhance support for the members. This role requires strong administrative and communication skills, with responsibilities that include processing memberships and payments, tracking data, generating reports, and resolving member issues related (but not limited) to website access and resource navigation. Whether facilitating a membership purchase or renewal, providing timely member support, or assisting at events as needed, the Coordinator serves as an important point of contact and plays a pivotal role in maintaining and strengthening the Association’s connection with its members.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Membership – General
- Support COO in planning, implementing, and monitoring membership growth initiatives, renewal campaigns, and related projects and events
- Respond with same-day solutions to phone and email inquiries regarding membership, website user portal, listserv issues, events, and general membership requests
- Maintain an accurate and up-to-date database, including membership dues and renewals, listserv subscriptions, and profile updates
- Develop in-depth expertise in the MemberCentral/TrialSmith CRM operating system, as it relates to membership operations
- Assist with financial reconciliation, invoice follow up, and preparation of financial and membership reports
- Create the monthly Member Newsletter by coordinating contributors, gathering and entering content, and reviewing accuracy and consistency
- Track membership numbers and provide regular updates and insights to the COO
- Assist in data preparation and analysis, generate regular membership reports, and identify trends or areas requiring attention
- Process transactions, payments and refunds via the CRM
- Provide administrative support to the COO for committees and special projects as required
Event Support
- Support the COO and collaborate with the Education Programs Coordinator to assist with membership-focused events as needed, including but not limited to:
- Trial By Fire No More: New Lawyer events
- Outreach events
- Education conferences
- Spring Soiree: annual social event
- Assist in the design and preparation of promotional materials, including digital marketing assets, signage and programs
- Work with COO to develop and execute marketing campaigns for membership events
- Support the Education Programs Coordinator with online registration process, and respond to event-related inquiries
- Assist with the execution of on-site event logistics and provide hands-on support during Association events as needed

- Service-oriented with a proactive, solution-focused approach to member support
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail, especially in data entry and proof-reading
- Comfortable working with data—able to generate reports, identify trends, and present findings clearly
- Proficient in Microsoft Office 365 (Outlook, Word, Excel) and Adobe Acrobat
- Familiarity with Canva and InDesign
- Experience using CRM systems and managing membership database management
- Self-motivated and resourceful
- Flexible and adaptable, with the ability to shift focus when needed
- Exceptional time management skills, with the ability to balance routine tasks and project-based work
- Able to reach, bend, stoop, push and/or pull, and lift up to (approx.) 13 kg (30 lbs)
- Pleasant, respectful and friendly demeanor in all member and team interactions
