Summary
Landlord’s Self-Help Centre (LSHC) is seeking two volunteer Board Members with a background in finance. This is a rewarding opportunity to support a non-profit legal clinic, provide strategic financial guidance, and promote best practices in financial governance.

LSHC is a Legal Aid Ontario funded community legal clinic dedicated to assisting small residential landlords across Ontario. We provide summary legal advice, education and advocacy to help small landlords navigate the complexities of providing rental housing. For more details about LSHC, visit our website.
Our Board of Directors plays a key role in guiding our governance, policy, and strategic direction to improve services and ensure long-term success.
We are looking for two professionals with a background in finance to serve on our Board in an advisory capacity, helping to:
- Provide support and strategic guidance to the Executive Director on budgeting and financial matters related to non-profit funding models.
- Advise the Board on best financial practices and potential governance improvements within the clinic system.
- Review and provide feedback on financial policies developed by the Executive Director.
Commitment & Expectations
- Board Term: Two years (eligible for re-election).
- Board Meetings: Approximately 1.5-2 hours per month for Board meetings (virtual orhybrid).
- Committee Meetings: Directors are expected to contribute to committees such as Governance, Finance, HR & Nominating, Marketing, Law Reform or IT, which typically meet monthly or bimonthly.
- Events: A few in-person events each year, including the AGM, annual forum, strategy sessions and social events.

Who We’re Looking For
We welcome CPA applicants with:
- Finance experience, ideally with policy development or review expertise.
- The ability to provide strategic financial direction without direct involvement in daily operations.
- A passion for governance, leadership, and nonprofit impact.
- Non-Profit finance experience is a plus, but not required.
- Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation considered an asset.
- Grant compliance or LAO reporting requirements considered an asset.
