Landlord’s Self-Help Centre (LSHC) is seeking a volunteer Board Member with governance

experience and a passion for supporting small landlords in Ontario.

As a member of the Board of Directors, you will provide strategic oversight and guidance to

the organization, helping to advance LSHC’s mission and ensure it continues to meet the

About LSHC

LSHC is a Legal Aid Ontario–funded community legal clinic dedicated to assisting small

residential landlords across Ontario. We provide summary legal advice, develop educational

resources, and participate in law reform initiatives to support landlords navigating the

complexities of rental housing.

The Board of Directors provides strategic and policy direction to ensure the organization

fulfills its mandate, now and into the future.

Who We’re Looking For

We are particularly interested in candidates who bring prior board or governance

experience, along with a demonstrated connection to Ontario’s housing sector or small

landlord community.

Director Responsibilities

The successful candidate will:

• Provide governance-level oversight and strategic direction, grounded in non-profit

governance best practices

• Contribute to Board discussions and decision-making aligned with LSHC’s mission

and strategic priorities

• Bring an understanding of the challenges faced by small landlords (lived experience

as a small landlord is an asset)

• Apply expertise in areas such as housing policy, landlord and tenant law,

government relations, or non-profit governance; experience in corporate functions

(e.g., HR, finance, IT, communications) is also valued

• Review Board materials in advance, ask thoughtful and probing questions, and

collaborate effectively with fellow Board members and the Executive Director

❖ Attend occasional in-person events (e.g., AGM, strategy sessions, Landlord Learning

❖ Estimated time commitment: approximately 5–10 hours per month

❖ Two-year term (renewable)

❖ Candidates must reside in Ontario
