Role Overview

We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer based in Vancouver to support the testing, post-processing, validation, and documentation of 3D-printed prosthetic components produced by an external print partner located locally.

This role acts as the hands-on technical bridge between our distributed engineering teams and our Vancouver-based manufacturing partner. The focus is on ensuring printed parts meet mechanical, dimensional, and quality expectations before integration and deployment.

Key Responsibilities

3D Printed Part Testing & Validation

  • Inspect and test 3D-printed components for dimensional accuracy, strength, fit, and functional performance.
  • Identify print defects, material issues, or post-processing risks.
  • Provide structured feedback to internal engineering teams and the Systems Integrator.
  • And open to providing suggestions and able to think outside the box.

Post-Processing & Print Readiness

Perform or oversee post-processing steps such as:

  • Support removal
  • Surface finishing
  • Assembly preparation
  • Evaluate post-processing methods for repeatability and scalability.
  • Help define print and post-processing standards for consistent output.

Local Partner Coordination

  • Act as the primary technical point of contact with the Vancouver-based 3D print partner.
  • Maintain a strong, professional working relationship with the print farm.
  • Communicate design intent, tolerances, and quality expectations clearly.

Documentation & Traceability

  • Document testing procedures, results, failures, and corrective actions.
  • Maintain clear records of print iterations, material choices, and outcomes.
  • Contribute to internal knowledge bases to support long-term consistency.

Feedback into the System

  • Surface manufacturing and testing insights to the Systems Integrator and Technical Program Lead.
  • Flag issues that affect integration, durability, or real-world use.
  • Support continuous improvement of designs based on physical testing data.

Required Qualifications

  • Degree or equivalent experience in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field.
  • Strong hands-on experience with 3D printing (FDM required; others a plus).
  • Solid understanding or interest of materials, tolerances, and mechanical testing.
  • Experience with post-processing and finishing of 3D-printed parts.
  • Excellent documentation and reporting habits.
  • Comfortable working with external partners and representing the organization professionally.
