Position Title: Meals on Wheels - Packaging Volunteer

Program Description:
Meals on Wheels is primarily a nutrition program with therapeutic, preventative and social components. The service involves the safe and efficient delivery of hot and frozen meals to persons who are unable to attend to their own nutritional needs. These clients include the elderly, disabled, chronically ill and/or convalescent. Referrals to other services, safety checks and friendly contacts are desirable components of the program. Meals are delivered by volunteers and when volunteers are not available, staff assistant.
Position Summary:
Frozen Meals Packaging
Under the supervision of the supervisor or designate, the volunteer will assist in the organization of effective delivery of the MOW program in collaboration with other volunteers, staff and stakeholders. The volunteer will help sort meals by using the information from the route sheets and placing the frozen meals into the packaging accordingly. This role requires some lifting of 5 to 10 lbs.
Wellness Bag Packaging
Under the supervision of the supervisor or designate, the volunteer will assist in the organization of effective delivery of the MOW program in collaboration with other volunteers, staff and stakeholders. The volunteer will help organize, pack, and prepare bags containing fruits and vegetables for clients in our community. This is a great way to make a meaningful impact in the community by promoting health, dignity, and care.
Our Meals on Wheels office is located at Sunnybrook Hospital.
Training:
- Volunteer onboarding e-modules
- Health and Safety training
- General training provided by the Meals on Wheels Supervisor
Service Responsibilities:
- Report to theSunnybrook Hospital Meals on Wheels office by the specified program time.
- Load and organize the meals into the freezer - requires some lifting (5-10 lbs)
- Be familiar with emergency procedures
Time and Commitment:
Meals on Wheels – Frozen Meal Packaging
- 2 hours per week from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., volunteer will establish a weekly schedul
- Current openings: Weekly – Fridays
- Volunteers should consider a 3-month commitment
Meals on Wheels – Wellness Bag Packaging
- 3 hours per week from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., volunteer will establish a weekly schedul
- Current openings: Bi-weekly – Thursdays
- Volunteers should consider a 3-month commitment
Organizational Responsibilities:
- Represents SPRINT Senior Care positively and professionally in the community
Success Measures:
- Feedback from clients and supervisor
- Feedback from the volunteer
- Satisfaction surveys completed by volunteer regarding their experience as a volunteer
Qualifications:
- Interest in community based social service and/or food services to an older adult population
- Organized
- Attention to detail
- Able to handle some lifting
- Satisfactory Police Records Check
- Ability to demonstrate good judgement and tact
