Location: Nunavik, QC (specific communities TBD)
Salary: Annual salary of $52,799(prorated for contract length) in addition to an annual northern allowance
Hours of Work: 35 hours per week

Become a tutor in one of the 14 Inuit communities of Northern Quebec!
In partnership with Kativik Ilisarniliriniq (Nunavik school board), we are seeking open, dedicated, and adaptable individuals to provide math and literacy support to high school students in Nunavik.
Tutors create their own schedule and adapt their approach and programming to each school and class, meeting the needs of the students through a combination of in-class and after-school tutoring. Tutors also organize and take part in extra- curricular activities alongside students to contribute to an inclusive school environment.
Supported by, and working in collaboration with the local personnel, tutors will work under the remote supervision of the United for Literacy Program Manager.
Your main responsibilities and major duties:
• Work closely with teachers to offer individualized support in the classroom
• Provide drop-in or targeted math and literacy tutoring sessions outside of class
hours
• Ensure a safe, positive, and respectful environment when tutoring
• Track and evaluate students’ progress and program impact
• Develop and maintain positive relationships with the students, school staff, as well
as with organisations and members of the community
• Submit weekly reports to Program Manager and maintain accurate records as
required
Skills, Attributes and Requirements
• Minimum 18 years old
• Demonstrated experience in working with teens or children.
• Comfortable with high school-level math curriculum and familiar with
community literacy.
• Bilingualism (working knowledge of French or Inuktitut)
• Works well under pressure and can adapt to changing and unpredictable
environments.
• Sensitivity or awareness of cultural differences and the broader societal
realities of Inuit communities.
Additional Assets
• Prior experience working with Inuit, First Nation or Métis individuals or
communities.
• Prior work experience or training in intervention, social work, or similar fields.
• Prior experience living and working in isolated and/or cross-cultural
community settings.
Working with United for Literacy
• Housing will be provided.
• Roundtrip travel costs and arrangements (from your location) are provided at
the start and end of contract and at winter break. An additional flight to/from Montreal is provided for spring break.
