About Us

We are a primarily volunteer run, registered Charity organization in Duncan BC, that offers a forever home for rescued farmed animals who are abandoned, seized by the BC S.P.C.A., or surrendered due to various circumstances. The sanctuary was founded in September 2017 and we were the first farm sanctuary in Canada to be Accredited by the Global Federation of Animal Sanctuaries.

We currently care for over 200 residents including pigs, goats, sheep, bovines, mini horses, donkeys, chickens, geese, ducks, turkeys, pigeons, partridges, dogs, guinea pigs, and cats. We ensure all the animals are provided with the best quality care and a safe home where they are able to live out their natural lives.

Our volunteers help us with the everyday care of the animals, social media, graphic design, fundraising, newsletter writing, and event planning. They also ensure the animals are well cared for and our organization runs smoothly.

On April 30, 2024, the sanctuary took possession of a 40 acre property in Duncan. This property is owned by the charity which will ensure stability and sustainability for the animals under our care. All the resident animals have moved to our new home, "Fields of Compassion."

To date we completed the following at "Fields of Compassion":
- 6’ Perimeter fence around the 40 acre property
- Two new metal barn roofs
- Gutters replaced on all buildings
- Brand new well house with a filtration and UV system
- The goat and sheep barn interior was retrofitted to accommodate 4 different herds
- New 4’ fences for 11 enclosures, thousands of feet of fences
- 7 days of tree topping and falling of dangerous maple trees to ensure the animal’s safety
- Property electrical upgrade to a 600 amp service from 200 amp
- New shelter, with a 8 foot overhang, for the big pigs
- Numerous shelters were moved by crane from our previous property
- The bird barn was just retrofitted with 8 large enclosures using hardware cloth, that was also buried 18” into the ground, to protect the birds from predators and avian flu

We acknowledge that our sanctuary is located within the ancestral, traditional, and unceded territory of the Quw’utsun (Cowichan) Nation.
