We are a registered charity and the only organization in Canada dedicated to the intersection of intimate partner violence and brain injury. We are looking for a creative and strategic leader to serve as our marketing and communications manager, helping us amplify our impact and secure the resources needed to support survivors of IPV-BI across the country.
The Role
Reporting directly to the executive director, you will be the guardian of the SOAR brand. You will lead our external communications and support fund development efforts, ensuring our message is survivor-centered, trauma-informed, and reaches a national audience. This is a senior role that requires a blend of high-level strategic planning and "hands-on" execution across digital and traditional platforms.
Key Responsibilities
1. Strategic Communications & Brand Integrity
- Brand Guardianship: Monitor and oversee the integrity of the SOAR brand across all platforms, ensuring alignment with our strategic plan.
- Content Strategy: Plan, execute, and monitor all communications, including our website (WordPress), social media (Buffer), monthly newsletters, and the organization's annual report.
- Media & Public Relations: Act as the primary point of contact for digital and traditional media outreach, coordinating interviews and managing government relations and advocacy efforts .
- Ethical Storytelling: Conceive and develop promotional and awareness materials (brochures, toolkits).
- Crisis Communications: Develop and maintain a crisis communication framework to protect the organization’s reputation and ensure sensitive responses to community issues.
2. Digital Performance & Community Management
- SEO & Digital Ads: Apply Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and digital advertising strategies to increase the visibility of SOAR’s educational and other resources.
- Community Engagement: Lead community management efforts on social platforms, fostering a safe and supportive online environment.
- Analytics & Reporting: Monitor and report on the effectiveness of digital campaigns and website traffic, using data to inform future outreach strategies.
3. Fund Development & Grant Management
- Grant Leadership: Maintain an up-to-date grant calendar; source new grants, research, write, and submit high-impact funding applications and required reports. Track progress on existing grants and reporting on wins/losses across potential funders.
- Fundraising Campaigns: Develop and execute multi-channel fundraising campaigns (digital and traditional) to diversify and expand SOAR’s donor base.
- Donor Stewardship: Implement a donor recognition and retention strategy to foster long-term relationships with individual and corporate supporters.
Skills & Qualifications
- Experience: Minimum 5–7 years of relevant experience in marketing, communications, or fund development, preferably within the non-profit sector.
- Education: Minimum Bachelor’s degree in journalism, marketing, communications, or a related discipline.
- Communication Mastery: Exceptional written and verbal communication, editing, and storytelling skills.
- Digital Proficiency: Mastery of WordPress, social media management tools (e.g., Buffer), email marketing platforms, and basic graphic design (e.g., Canva).
- Fundraising Success: Proven track record in securing grant funding and executing successful fundraising campaigns.
- Independence & Collaboration: Proven ability to work independently and make confident decisions while maintaining a collaborative spirit across remote teams.
- Innovation: A creative mindset with the ability to leverage AI tools responsibly as supportive aids in content creation.
- Bilingualism: Fluency in French is an asset.
