Senior Leadership Opportunity | Non-Profit | Social Enterprise | Animal Welfare

The Regional Animal Protection Society (RAPS) is seeking an experienced and strategic senior leader to join our team in a pivotal role that bridges fundraising, operations, and organizational growth.

This is an opportunity for a leader who is motivated not just to manage—but to build, shape, and strengthen a complex, mission-driven organization.

RAPS is a registered charity and no-kill animal-serving organization operating the RAPS Cat Sanctuary, the RAPS Adoption & Education Centre, three Thrift Stores, and the RAPS Animal Hospital—a community-owned, non-profit veterinary hospital. Together, these programs form a unique model that integrates animal welfare, healthcare, social enterprise, and community impact.

Position Summary

The Managing Director, Development & Operations is a senior leadership role responsible for advancing revenue growth, organizational performance, and long-term sustainability.

Working closely with the CEO and Senior Manager, this role contributes to strategic planning while also supporting execution across key areas of the organization. The successful candidate will be equally comfortable in high-level strategy and hands-on leadership.

Key Responsibilities

Development & Revenue Leadership

  • Lead and expand diversified revenue streams, including major gifts, corporate partnerships, and grants
  • Develop and execute multi-year fundraising strategies aligned with organizational growth
  • Cultivate, steward, and close significant donor and sponsor relationships
  • Identify and pursue new funding opportunities to support program expansion

Organizational Leadership & Operations

  • Support overall organizational performance, including financial oversight and planning
  • Contribute to governance, HR leadership, and operational effectiveness
  • Strengthen internal systems, processes, and cross-functional collaboration
  • Support major initiatives, including capital projects and expansion planning

Why Join RAPS

RAPS is not a typical charity. We operate a multi-faceted organization that includes:

  • One of North America’s largest cat sanctuaries
  • A community-owned, non-profit animal hospital
  • Multiple social enterprise thrift stores
  • Adoption, education, and outreach programs
  • Municipal and community partnerships

This role has been created in response to the organization’s growth and increasing complexity, and represents a critical investment in leadership capacity.

Who You Are

You are an experienced nonprofit leader who brings both strategic insight and operational capability, with a strong track record in revenue development.

You may have previously served as:

  • Executive Director
  • Chief Development Officer or Director of Development
  • Senior Operations or Program Leader within a complex organization

You bring:

  • Demonstrated success securing major gifts (including six-figure contributions)
  • Experience building corporate partnerships and sponsorships
  • Knowledge of foundation and grant funding landscapes
  • Strong financial literacy and organizational leadership experience
  • The ability to align fundraising strategy with organizational priorities
  • A collaborative, steady, and solutions-oriented leadership style
  • An entrepreneurial mindset and comfort working in a dynamic environment

An existing network of donors or partners is considered an asset.

Growth Opportunity

This role is designed for a leader who is looking to grow with the organization. As RAPS continues to expand, there is potential for this position to evolve into a broader executive leadership role.

The Impact

In this role, you will help RAPS to:

  • Expand and diversify revenue
  • Strengthen internal leadership and operational systems
  • Support major capital and growth initiatives
  • Build long-term organizational sustainability

This is a rare opportunity to contribute to the future of a highly respected organization working to improve the lives of animals and the people who care for them.
