Lead the Future of Community Arts in West Vancouver

The West Vancouver Community Arts Council (WVCAC) is seeking an energetic, community-minded Managing Director to lead our organization into its next chapter.

For more than five decades, the WVCAC has enriched community life by supporting local artists and presenting visual arts exhibitions, concerts, educational programs and community events.

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Managing Director provides strategic and operational leadership while ensuring the organization remains financially sustainable, well governed and responsive to the needs of the community.

This is an exceptional opportunity for an emerging or experienced nonprofit leader seeking to make a significant impact while growing with a respected community arts organization.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Operations

  • Provide overall leadership for the organization and manage day-to-day operations.
  • Lead and support staff and volunteers while fostering a positive, inclusive workplace culture.
  • Implement Board-approved strategic priorities and operational plans.

Financial Management & Fundraising

  • Prepare and manage the annual operating budget and monitor financial performance.
  • Oversee bookkeeping, accounting and annual audit processes.
  • Develop and implement fundraising strategies, including grants, sponsorships, donations and community partnerships.
  • Build long-term financial sustainability through diversified revenue sources.

Governance & Compliance

  • Provide the Board of Directors with sales and operational reports to allow for ongoing analysis of systems in real time.
  • Implementing Board policies and assisting with governance
  • activities.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable legislation, funding agreements and organizational policies.
  • Maintain sound risk management and ethical business practices.

Community Engagement

  • Serve as the primary ambassador for the WVCAC.
  • Build strong relationships with artists, members, donors, government representatives, community organizations and the broader North Shore arts community.
  • Promote awareness of the Council's programs and impact.

Programs & Technology

  • Oversee gallery operations, arts programming and community events.
  • Manage and continually improve the organization's digital systems, including CRM, website, online ticketing, payment platforms, cloud storage and financial software.
  • Support marketing initiatives that increase participation, membership and community engagement.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will bring:

  • Three to five years of progressive leadership experience in a nonprofit, arts, cultural or community organization.
  • Experience managing organizational operations, budgets and staff or volunteers.
  • Demonstrated success in fundraising, grant writing and donor relations.
  • Experience working collaboratively with a Board of Directors.
  • Strong financial management and organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and relationship-building abilities.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace, accounting software (such as QuickBooks), CRM databases and online event or ticketing platforms.
  • Experience in the arts, culture or community sector is considered an asset.

Working Conditions

This is a full-time position based in West Vancouver. Some evening and weekend work is required to support exhibitions, performances and community events.
