Role Summary

The Manager, Public Relations and Events supports the Senior Manager, Strategic Communications in raising public awareness of newcomer employment issues and elevating TRIEC’s brand visibility. The role leads content development, media relations, digital engagement, and event planning, delivering high-impact communications to position TRIEC as a thought leader.

This position reports to the Senior Manager, Strategic Communications.

Key responsibilities:

I. Public Relations and Content Strategy

•Develop and execute TRIEC’s public relations strategy to align with TRIEC’s broader marketing and communications framework.
• Ensure all communications reflect TRIEC’s values and maintain consistent messaging aligned with the organization’s overall strategic direction.
• Lead TRIEC’s editorial planning process, ensuring integration across PR, digital, and campaign content.
• Develop and manage engaging written and multimedia content for a range of platforms including TRIEC’s website, social media, newsletters, and media channels.
• Write high-impact thought leadership content such as op-eds, blog posts, speeches, and articles to engage key audiences and elevate TRIEC’s share of voice in the sector.
• Support the development of strategic messaging and collateral for leadership and key initiatives, including slide decks, speaking notes, and briefing documents.
• Develop and manage integrated content marketing campaigns with clear objectives and performance metrics.
• Monitor emerging trends and best practices in communications and events, proactively recommending innovative approaches to enhance TRIEC’s presence.
• Oversee relationships with content vendors (writers, designers, web developers, printers, etc.) for production of digital and print materials.
• Provide strategic public relations advice to internal TRIEC teams.

II. Media relations
• Develop and execute proactive media strategies to enhance TRIEC’s visibility across mainstream, ethnic, and trade media.
• Build and maintain relationships with journalists and media influencers.
• Generate and pitch compelling stories, op-eds, and thought leadership opportunities.
• Draft and distribute media materials (e.g., press releases, advisories, backgrounders).
• Coordinate media interviews and prepare spokespeople with briefings.
• Monitor media coverage and manage both proactive and reactive media engagement, including crisis communications.

III. Digital and social media
• Plan and deliver digital campaigns aligned with TRIEC’s communications goals, including thought leadership and stakeholder engagement.
• Manage TRIEC’s digital platforms (website and social media), ensuring consistency, functionality, and brand alignment.
• Respond to online engagement such as comments, inquiries, and sentiment, escalating issues when necessary.
• Apply SEO best practices and use analytics to evaluate and refine content strategies.
• Stay current on digital trends and incorporate relevant best practices.

IV. Events Planning
• Lead the planning and execution of TRIEC’s signature events, including the Annual Event, TMP Awards, employer roundtables, and stakeholder forums.
• Develop and implement comprehensive communications plans that support every stage of the event lifecycle – before, during, and after the event.
• Ensure seamless event delivery through effective management of logistics, vendor relationships, and on-site operations.
• Oversee event timelines and budgets to ensure seamless, high-quality delivery.
• Troubleshoot and proactively manage on-site execution challenges to deliver a seamless experience.

Other Duties as Assigned:
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to strengthen TRIEC’s communications and events strategies, contributing to planning, decision-making, and organization-wide initiatives.
• Prepare and present clear, concise reports and updates on PR initiatives, media engagement, content performance, and event outcomes as required.
• Support other communications and event-related tasks as needed, demonstrating adaptability and a solutions-focused mindset to help TRIEC respond to evolving needs and strategic priorities.

Essential Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
• A minimum of 5 to 7 years of progressive experience in public relations, communications, or event planning, with demonstrated success in media relations, content development, and managing high-profile events.
• Exceptional writing and editing skills, with experience developing content for a range of platforms, including social media, websites, and media outreach.
• Proficiency with design and digital engagement tools (e.g., Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, Mailchimp, Hootsuite). Familiarity with content management systems, such as WordPress, is not required but considered an asset.
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to assess communications performance and apply insights effectively.
• Excellent organizational and project management abilities – able to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.
• Proven ability to build and maintain strong relationships with diverse stakeholders, including media, corporate partners, government agencies, and community organizations.

Compensation: $65,000- $70,000 per year, plus employer paid benefits package.

Hybrid Work Arrangements:

TRIEC operates on a hybrid work arrangement comprising a mix of in-office and remote work. Under this arrangement, full-time employees will be required to work in-person at the office 2 days per week.
