Toronto Public Library Foundation: Helping Write the Library’s Next Great Chapter
The Manager, Major Gifts will focus on cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding high-capacity individual donors and support the delivery of major fundraising events and activities. This individual will manage their own portfolio of donors, while also supporting the Director and senior Foundation leadership across the Major Gifts team. Key responsibilities include identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding donors and prospects; building and maintaining key relationships in collaboration with the Director, Major Gifts and other members of the TPLF team. They will develop and implement processes to achieve efficiencies in all stages of pipeline management and donor cultivation, and Raiser’s Edge data entry and reporting accuracy. They will work closely with internal Library and TPLF teams to develop compelling major gift proposals, and manage and track the donor journey and portfolio pipeline. This role contributes directly to TPLF’s long-term fundraising growth and sustainability.

Key Responsibilities
Portfolio Management & Major Gift Revenue
- Manage a portfolio of major gift prospects and donors (e.g. 50–75 individuals) in the $25K to $100K range, with a particular emphasis on strengthening donor pipeline between annual fundraising events (e.g. our signature fundraising gala) and Major Gifts.
- Develop cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies for year-round engagement, tailored to individual donors, and developed in consultation with prospect managers.
- Support fundraising activities and other fundraisers across the Major Gifts portfolio, when necessary—prepare briefing materials, and other collateral materials for prospect and donor meetings, review impact reports and proposals, etc.
- Work with the Director, Major Gifts and key collaborators on the Marketing and Communications team to prepare proposals and other donor communications materials tailored to donors at the Major Gifts level.
- Achieve or exceed annual revenue, pipeline growth, and conversion targets.
- Track, monitor and report on moves management and pipeline health using the donor database.
Donor Engagement, Stewardship & Recognition
- Design and execute high-impact donor engagement plans that deepen affinity to TPL and TPLF.
- In close collaboration with the Marketing and Communications team, oversee and manage the creation of proposals, donor briefs, impact reports, stewardship communications, recognition plans and follow-up.
- Coordinate internally to ensure seamless donor experiences—acknowledgments, updates, event invitations, recognition.
Strategy, Planning & Collaboration
- Contribute to annual major gifts strategy and integrate with broader Foundation fundraising plans.
- Contribute to forecasting, budget input, and performance reporting to senior leadership.
- Work closely with annual giving, events, stewardship, and communications teams to align efforts.
- Represent TPLF at donor meetings, cultivation or stewardship events, volunteer engagements, and external gatherings.
Best Practices, Leadership & Professionalism
- Apply fundraising best practices in moves management, donor segmentation, prospect research, and donor care.
- Maintain donor confidentiality, discretion, and ethical fundraising standards.
- Model TPLF values of equity, inclusion, respect and collaboration in all donor and team interactions.
Qualifications & Competencies
Education & Experience
- Post-secondary degree or equivalent experience in fundraising, communications, business, or related field.
- Minimum 5 years of direct major gift fundraising experience focused on individual donors (not institutional).
- Track record securing individual gifts at meaningful levels (e.g. $25,000+).
- Experience managing a portfolio of high-capacity donors, with a disciplined moves-management approach.
- Experience with a donor database (Raiser’s Edge preferred).
