POSITION SUMMARY:

World Skills, a not-for-profit employment servicefor new Canadians, is seeking to fill the position of Manager, Human Resourcesand Volunteer Services.

This is a multi-faceted role involving Human Resources, Operations, Staff and Volunteer Engagement, Program Management, and Stakeholder Relations. The employee will performthe following duties:

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

Human Resources

  • Lead and executeall human resourcesrelated tasks
  • Collaborate with management teamto identify staffneeds, develop and maintain job descriptions, advertisepositions, screen applications, interviewand select candidates
  • Conduct reference checksfor selected candidates
  • Oversee onboardingfor new staff and ensure they complete all required training
  • Maintain confidential files for all staff
  • Monitor and maintain data in Human Resources management system
  • Collaborate with the management teamto conduct performance reviews, ensuring employee reviewsare completed and filed
  • Update and maintain organizational policies and communicate them to staff
  • Prepare employment and referenceletters for staff as needed
  • Ensure contracts are in order and updated with payroll and bookkeeper as needed
  • Respond to questions related to benefits, pay, and leave, with support from finance
  • Oversee professional development for staff, seek training opportunities and engage facilitators as needed

Volunteer Management

  • Collaborate with internal teams to identify volunteer needs and opportunities and ensure volunteer roles align and adapt to the organization’s strategic goals and operational needs
  • Develop and implement effective recruitment strategies to attract and retain a diverse pool of volunteers
  • Communicate and engage with volunteers regularly to ensure active participation in programs
  • Monitor and evaluate volunteer opportunities and programs, gathering feedback, and adjusting as needed
  • Oversee onboarding for new volunteers and ensure they complete all required training
  • Maintain confidential files for all volunteers
  • Provide reference letters for volunteers as needed
  • Lead and execute volunteer appreciation events and activities

Operations

  • Work collaboratively with managers to improve operational management systems, processes, and best practices
  • Coordinate the purchase of materials, plan inventory, and oversee efficiency, as needed 
  • Ensure organizational processes remain legally compliant 
  • Provide support to the Executive Director in relation to the Board of Directors (AGM, Meetings, Minutes, and Reports)

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Post-secondary education in Human Resources, Business Administration or a related field with 2-3 years of progressive experience in human resourcesor recruitment or a combination of training, education and experience
  • Proficiency in English (oraland written) is essential, French is anasset
  • Advanced skills in MS Office and currenttechnologies
  • Flexible, responsive and open to learning and contributing to a range of organizational activities to add value toour work
  • Sound intercultural communication skills, diplomacy, maturity and integrity
  • Proven abilityto work effectively as part of a team in a multi-cultural environment
  • Ability to maintainconfidentiality is imperative
  • Ability towork under pressure, to communicate effectively (verbal and written),to establish priorities and deal with tight timelines
  • Ability to recognize the need for change and to develop plans for change where necessary
  • A strongwork ethic having the needs of the organization and the clients as the primary priority

World Skills operates in a hybrid environment. This position is currently expected to work inthe office a minimum of 2 days per week, plus in-person meetings or events as required.
