The Manager, Empower Ability Program, is a strategic leadership role responsible for advancing equitable career outcomes for students with disabilities at York University. Reporting to the Director of the Career Centre, this role leads the design, implementation, and evaluation of a university-wide initiative that addresses systemic barriers to employment and empowers students through inclusive, accessible, and high-impact career transition services. This position provides leadership to a team of work study students and oversees the development of tailored programming including career advising, job search strategy, employer engagement, and workplace readiness. The role builds strong cross-campus partnerships and serves as a key partner to employers advocating for inclusive hiring practices and recommending accommodations and job design to support successful student transition into the workforce. The role researches and applies best practices for career supports for post-secondary students with disabilities. The Manager, Empower Ability Program also leads institutional awareness efforts, including a national symposium, and contributes to sector-wide knowledge sharing through publications, presentations, and professional networks. The role supports the vision, mission, values and strategic direction of the Division of Students and York University, and contributes to a positive, supportive and student-focused team environment of high performance, respect, trust, collaboration and continuous improvement. To be considered for this opportunity, you will bring the following:
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline, such as Occupational Therapy, Social Work, etc.
- Certified Social Worker, Occupational Therapist, Registered Rehabilitation Professional (RRP) or Certified Vocational Rehabilitation Professional (CVRP) licence/professional designation.
- Vulnerable Sector Check satisfactory to the University prior to commencement of employment.
Experience:
- 5 years of relevant experience.
- Experience supporting individuals with disabilities or barriers to employment transition into the workforce.
- 3 years of management experience.
- Experience developing and scaling student support programs.
- Experience negotiating job duties and accommodations with employers.
- Experience with establishing benchmarks for performance metrics.
- Experience in financial, human resources and project management.
- Experience in events planning and management.
- Experience collecting and reviewing medical information and recommending accommodations.
- Experience researching best practices for post-secondary students with disabilities.
