Volunteer Opportunities
Africa Caribbean Heritage Alliance (ACHA)
Hybrid - Edmonton

The Africa Caribbean Heritage Alliance is welcoming volunteers who want to take part in work that strengthens people and neighbourhoods across our region. These roles focus on community outreach, marketing and communications, and funding support. They contribute directly to programs that promote connection, opportunity and cultural understanding.

We look for individuals who bring focus, initiative and a sincere interest in community impact. This volunteer experience requires a minimum commitment of ten hours each month. Applicants are asked to include a resume and a letter of intent that outlines their interest, relevant experience and the motivation that draws them to this work.

About ACHA

ACHA was founded to rebuild the relationship between Africa and the Caribbean in the areas of heritage, culture, economics, education, travel and tourism. The influence of the African continent on Caribbean identity has never faded. It lives on through food, music, art, language, dance and ancestral traditions.

The organization began with the vision of Okama Ekpe Brook, a Nigerian professional whose work with the United Nations took her across the world. While based in Curacao and St. Maarten, she recognized the deep cultural ties between African and Caribbean peoples and created ACHA as a positive connecting gateway. Her background in nation building, change management, ethnocultural research and sustainability shaped a clear understanding of how these regions can strengthen one another.

ACHA was first registered in St. Maarten, then expanded to Nigeria in 2018. Its programs in Nigeria have grown through partnerships with donors, organizations and individuals. With Okama’s move to Alberta in 2021, the need for a Canadian chapter became clear. ACHA Canada was registered in 2023 through the Alberta Societies Act, with regional expansion underway for Jamaica and the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States.

Our Focus

ACHA’s work spans a range of sectors that are naturally interconnected through shared cultural heritage. Our focus includes culture and heritage, economic development that supports entrepreneurship, trade, tourism and foreign direct investments, education and health, entertainment and sports.

Our Mission

We aim to build a world where the societies of Africa and the Caribbean are positively reconnected, creating conditions for sustainable and human development.

Our Vision

We strive to unlock the full potential of shared African and Caribbean heritage. By 2025, aligned with the International Decade for People of African Descent, we work toward a future where both regions are reconnected on the pillars of recognition, justice and development, with a commitment to advancing the human condition.

Our Strategy

ACHA provides a framework for stakeholder engagement that strengthens cooperation at national, regional and international levels. Our goal is to support the full enjoyment of economic, social, cultural, civil and political rights for people of African and Caribbean descent and to promote their full and equal participation in all areas of society.

Is This the Right Opportunity for You

This experience suits someone who values cultural connection, community advancement and meaningful collaboration. Volunteers help amplify programs that support both the preservation of heritage and the growth of communities across regions linked by history.
