About Village Theatre Waterdown (VTW)
Village Theatre Waterdown (VTW) is a charitable community theatre dedicated to producing high-quality theatrical experiences and community events. For over 50 years, VTW has engaged over 100 volunteers and artists annually to bring theatre to the Greater Hamilton area. We are seeking an individual with a passion for theatre and an interest in sharing their expertise to help achieve the goals of a charitable community.
Role Overview
The Lead Promotion Coordinator serves as a board member and plays a vital role in building public awareness and audience engagement for VTW’s productions and events. In this dual capacity, the individual not only leads promotional strategies but also serves as a key member of the Marketing and Communications team. This individual works closely with show producers and directors to lead strategic promotional efforts. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys collaboration, creativity, and utilizing modern communication tools to promote the arts.
Time Commitment:
• 8-10 hours per month (includes attendance at a 2-hour monthly executive meeting)
• Time commitment typically increases in the 2–3 months leading up to a production,
with two productions a year – Spring & Fall
Key Responsibilities
Marketing Strategy & Planning
• Develop and execute tailored marketing and communications plans for each
production
• Collaborate with the Director and Producer to align messaging and promotional
timelines
• Develop content and execute the design of playbills for each production
• Manage promotion budgets in coordination with the executive team
Advertising & Creative Coordination
• Oversee poster production and all advertising efforts
• Coordinate with graphic designers and creative service providers as needed
• Ensure consistency in branding across all media
• Coordinate VTW road sign postings throughout the calendar year.
Media & Public Relations
• Draft press releases and promote productions to local and regional media outlets
• Act as a media liaison to generate interest and coverage
Digital Marketing
• Supervise and provide updates to the website coordinator
• Supervise the social media team
• Draft content for email newsletters via Mailchimp to VT members and followers as
required (6-8 times per year)
Sponsorship & Community Engagement
• Foster annual relationships with sponsors and advertisers
• Promote community involvement and partnerships to expand VTW’s visibility
Organizational Support
• Provide promotional support for VTW’s broader corporate events and initiatives
• Advise the Executive Committee on effective marketing and communication
strategies
Requirements
• Experience in marketing, communications, or a related field (professional or
volunteer-based)
• Strong communication, planning, and organizational skills
• Working knowledge of social media platforms and email marketing tools (e.g.,
Mailchimp)
• Basic budgeting experience
• Creativity and an eye for design and branding
• Comfort using or learning content management
• Ability to collaborate in a team setting and independently manage projects
• Membership with VTW is required
