
From Land Acknowledgements to Action Coordinator
- 0.4 FTE (15 hours/wk)

- Residence in Ottawa preferred for hybrid work.
Overview:
The recently published book On Dismantling Settler Colonialism is described as “an insider’s perspective on reconciliation with Indigenous Peoples” and serves as a practical guide for non-Indigenous people to engage in meaningful reconciliation work. The From Land Acknowledgements to Action Coordinator will work with this source material, to develop opportunities for learning and advocacy within non-Indigenous spaces.
Within the context of CPJ’s core public justice documents, the Land Acknowledgment Plus Project Coordinator will support CPJ’s strategic priorities by researching and integrating themes of reconciliation with CPJ’s policy priorities.
Key Responsibilities
Research and Analysis
- Reads and understands On Dismantling Settler Colonialism to support and guide the project.
- Completes other research relevant to the successful execution of the project.
- Utilizes practices that are aligned with Indigenous values, when interacting with Indigenous communities for the purpose of research.
- Explores the relevant ways in which faith community groups can take advocacy action through movements like Land Back, specific policy objectives, and holding governments accountable for their responsibilities.
Public Engagement
- Works in collaboration with CPJ’s Policy Analysts and Communications and Engagement Specialist to establish a public engagement strategy for the project.
- Coordinates and facilitates public engagement events, as determined by the public engagement strategy for the project.
- Communicates with the public regarding the project, through public presentations, writing, advocacy, and workshop delivery to audiences ranging from public officials to the media, leaders in society, faith communities, and CPJ supporters.
- Engages Christian and secular media outlets to promote the project.
- Some travel within Canada is to be expected, as well as virtual and hybrid activities.
GOVERNMENT RELATIONS
- Meeting with parliamentarians to further the goals of the project, as needed.
Place within CPJ’s team
- Responsible to the Executive Director.
- Works closely with other Policy Analysts and Communications and Engagement Specialist.
Qualifications

- Since this is a core position in CPJ’s work community, the successful candidate must express commitment to CPJ’s faith-based vision for public policy work and agreement with CPJ’s core public justice documents.

Strong understanding of intersectional, rights-based approaches to public policy and of historic and contemporary systemic factors that contribute to the marginalization of Indigenous Peoples in Canada.
- Strong communicator – excellent written, oral, interactive skills for both in-person and virtual/digital engagements.
- Experience developing and implementing measurement, evaluation, and reporting processes.
- Strong organizational and project management skills.
- Relevant university degree(s) or comparable experience.
- Appropriate computer skills, in particular use of MS Office.
- Ability/willingness to travel and to work flexible hours.
