About the College (CTCMPAO)
The College of Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioners and Acupuncturists of Ontario (CTCMPAO) is the regulatory body established by the provincial government to oversee the practice of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) and acupuncture in Ontario. Our core mandate is to protect the public interest by ensuring that all registered practitioners deliver safe, ethical, and competent care. We achieve this by setting strict standards of practice, managing a rigorous quality assurance program, and providing accessible educational resources. By partnering with us on this project, you will play a direct role in enhancing public safety and breaking down barriers to understanding complex health regulations.
Project Overview
The College is transforming how we educate our members and the public by transitioning static regulatory documents (PDFs) into engaging, modern digital experiences. We are currently seeking two independent contractors to collaborate on Phase 1 of our new Interactive Learning Hub. Both roles share an estimated time requirement of 25 hours over an 8-week period.
- Employment Status: Independent Contractor (25 hours per week for about 8 week period)
- Compensation: $35.00 – $50.00 / hour (Commensurate with experience)
Position Summary:
The College requires an independent contractor to serve as the lead Instructional Designer for the Interactive Learning Hub project. The primary objective of this role is to bridge the gap between technical health regulation and accessible education by translating complex legal documents into clear, impactful adult learning modules. The contractor will be responsible for reviewing existing source documents (such as Standards of Practice and legislation) and writing the foundational instructional copy for the Hub. This role requires the active application of adult learning theories to make regulatory content digestible, working in close partnership with internal Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to ensure strict technical and regulatory accuracy.
Core Responsibilities & Deliverables:
- Information Architecture: Map the logical structure of the Hub's website, determining how information is categorized and defining seamless navigational pathways for the user journey.
- Content Transformation & Web Copy: Rewrite and adapt existing static resources into clear, plain-language instructional web copy, ensuring the tone is appropriate and accessible for both practitioners and the general public.
- Learning Experience Design: Develop engaging educational narratives, decision trees, and interactive scenarios (e.g., "Case of the Month") that effectively resonate with adult learners.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with the project's Multimedia Specialist to guide the visual representation of educational concepts, while coordinating with internal SMEs to validate the accuracy of all regulatory content.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Education: Degree, diploma, or formal certificate in Instructional Design, Adult Education, Technical Writing, or a related discipline.
- Theoretical Knowledge: Foundational understanding of adult learning theories (e.g., Andragogy, ADDIE model) and demonstrated ability to apply these principles within digital learning environments.
- Writing & Organizational Skills: Exceptional copywriting, editing, and plain-language translation skills, with a proven ability to organize complex, technical information into an intuitive digital structure.
- Industry Alignment: Strong interest in healthcare, public safety, or professional regulation. Prior experience in health regulation is considered a strong asset, though a willingness to learn the regulatory framework is required.
Application and Interview Process
To ensure we find the best fit for this project while respecting candidates' time, the College utilizes a two-step evaluation process:
- Step 1: Resume and Portfolio Review. Interested candidates should submit their resume and a link to their portfolio or writing samples. The evaluation committee will review all submissions and shortlist top candidates.
- Step 2: Paid Demonstration Project. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to the second stage, where they will be asked to complete a small, paid project to demonstrate their skills in a real-world scenario. Please note: Candidates will be compensated for their time to complete this assignment; however, the copyright and all intellectual property rights to the submissions will become the sole property of the College.
How to Apply: Please submit your resume, portfolio/samples, and a brief email indicating which of the two roles you are applying for to mary.kennedy@ctcmpao.on.ca
We thank all applicants for their interest; however, only those selected for Step 2 will be contacted.
