Cedar Centre is seeking passionate, skilled, and committed individuals to join our Board of Directors. This is an exciting opportunity to use your expertise to help guide a growing charity dedicated to supporting children, youth and adults who have experience childhood interpersonal trauma.
About Us
Cedar Centre is a registered charity that provides trauma-specific therapy for children, youth, and their non-offending supportive caregivers, as well as for adults and seniors who, as children, experienced interpersonal childhood violence. The focus of our work is to support people recovering from the impact that interpersonal childhood trauma has had on their lives.
The Centre is currently host to the development of York Region’s first Child/Youth Advocacy Centre, a legacy project in partnership with York Regional Police, York Region Children’s Aid Society, Dnaagdawenmag Binnoojiiyag Child & Family Services, Jewish Family and Child Service, the Newmarket Crown’s Office and Victim Services – Newmarket.
As we enter our next phase of development, we are strengthening our Board to ensure strong governance, sustainable growth, and meaningful impact.
The Role of a Trustee
As a Board Member, you will:
•Provide strategic oversight and direction
•Participate in governance and regulatory compliance
•Support financial sustainability and risk management
•Act as an ambassador for the Centre
•Engage in fund development and community events in support of the Centre
•Contribute your expertise to Board discussions and decision-making
•Work collaboratively with fellow Board members and the executive team
This is a non-executive and voluntary role, but it carries significant responsibility and influence.
We Are Particularly Interested In Individuals With Experience In:
•Finance / accountancy
•Legal / governance
•Fundraising and income generation
•Marketing and communications
•Digital transformation
•HR / people and culture strategy
•Lived experience relevant to our mission
We are especially committed to improving the diversity of our Board and welcome applications from underrepresented communities.
Time Commitment
•Approximately 10 board meetings per year
•Participation in one sub-committee
•Occasional events or strategic sessions
Most meetings are held on the third calendar Thursday of the month (hybrid).
