Who We Are

Port Coquitlam Senior Citizens’ Housing Society (PCSCHS) is a non-profit, charitable society providing seniors’ housing and care in Port Coquitlam. Our mission is to be a compassionate community devoted to comfort, care, and connection, grounded in a person-centered approach.

We proudly own and operate:

  • Hawthorne Seniors Care Community, providing long-term care, assisted living, and adult day programs
  • Dogwood Seniors Housing, offering both subsidized and affordable housing options

Why we’re recruiting

As PCSCHS grows, expands services, and advances its redevelopment vision, we are strengthening Board governance across clinical oversight, capital development, and financial stewardship. We seek values-driven leaders to join our volunteer Board and provide strong, transparent governance supporting effective risk management and sustainable long-term decision-making.

The Opportunity (Volunteer Board Role)

PCSCHS is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors that provides strategic leadership, oversight, and stewardship. Board members focus on governance and long‑term sustainability, while day‑to‑day operations are managed by a team professional staff.

Key Qualifications

We are seeking up to four new Directors who bring diverse experience, thoughtful perspectives, and a shared commitment to our mission. We welcome applicants from all backgrounds who are motivated to contribute to a values-driven, community-based organization.

We are specifically seeking candidates with expertise in one of the following areas:

  • Clinical Care & Quality: Leadership in long-term care, assisted living, or complex care; experience with quality improvement, resident safety, or regulatory compliance; ability to interpret clinical data
  • Capital Development: Experience with capital projects, construction, or redevelopment; knowledge of procurement, contracts, and project risk
  • Financial Stewardship & Risk: CPA or equivalent; experience with financial oversight, audit, and risk management, ideally in non-profit and/or publicly funded environments

The ideal Director is collaborative and strategic, exercises sound judgment on complex issues, and is committed to ethical, person‑centred governance. Prior board experience is helpful but not required. Experience in seniors’ housing, long-term care, assisted living, or community-based services is an asset.

PCSCHS welcomes applications from individuals who reflect the diversity of the community we serve and who share our commitment to respectful, inclusive governance.

Time Commitment

  • Board meetings are held monthly (typically 1.5 -2 hours).
  • Committee participation: approximately 1–2 hours per month (depending on committee workload and organizational priorities)
  • Directors are expected to review materials in advance and participate actively in governance and strategic discussions.
