This role focuses on proactive employer outreach, job development, job matching, and ongoing post-employment support to promote sustainable employment outcomes. The Job Developer / Employer Engagement works closely with Employment Specialists and other program staff and balances employer engagement, client advocacy, and administrative accountability.

These are your responsibilities:

Client Direct:

  • Develop strategies to achieve sustainable employment outcomes, including job matching and placement development.
  • Source and present employment opportunities aligned with client skills, abilities, preferences, and employment goals.
  • Visit individual workplaces at least once per placement (or more as required) to monitor progress, provide coaching, and support job retention.
  • Determine when and how to provide direct instruction and assistance to clients to support job retention, and address challenges by collaborating with Employment Specialists and connecting clients to appropriate services.
  • Participate in activities that support client employment outcomes, including job fairs, project participation, community events, and relevant virtual workshops.
  • Collaborate with other staff to develop strategies and share employer leads across programs and services.
  • Where relevant, provide guidance and coaching on apprenticeship pathways to job seekers, employees, and employers.

Employer Direct:

  • Conduct proactive outreach to local employers to identify hiring and training needs and promote Employment Services supports.
  • Develop job opportunities and leads through employer engagement, including emails, cold calling, networking, and site visits.
  • Maintain consistent outreach to expand and sustain employer partnerships over time.
  • Assist employers with job postings, job analysis, and labour market research.
  • Develop on-the-job training opportunities, including job trials and placements (subsidized and unsubsidized).
  • Visit workplaces prior to placement start to ensure provincially legislated workplace policies and practices are in place and to support onboarding.
  • Provide coaching to employers and employees on relevant workplace legislation and practices.
  • Act as a liaison between employer and employee to support communication, manage expectations, and address workplace challenges.
  • Maintain long-term relationships with employers and ensure Centre for Skills practices and program guidelines are followed.

Administrative / Accountability:

  • Maintain accurate, timely, and detailed case notes related to client and employer engagement.
  • Track activities, placements, and outcomes in alignment with Service System Manager and Centre for Skills requirements.
  • Ensure documentation and reporting are completed accurately and within required timelines.
  • Consistently meet or exceed monthly employment, placement, and activity targets.
  • Use technology and client management systems effectively to support organization, reporting, and accountability.
  • Guide employers and clients in the completion of required forms and ensure deadlines are met.

What you bring to this job:

  • Post-secondary degree or diploma
  • 2–3 years of highly related experience in job development, employer outreach, recruitment, employment counselling, or employment services.
  • Understanding of job development principles and person-centred, trauma-informed approaches.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain professional relationships with employers.
  • Comfort initiating employer outreach, including cold calling and in-person engagement.
  • Broad knowledge of labour market trends and community services related to employment and training.
  • Strong organizational, time management, and attention-to-detail skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities.
  • Proven ability to operate independently while demonstrating a high level of professionalism and integrity.
  • Ability to communicate in a professional, transparent, and authentic manner that builds trust and credibility with employers and clients, including navigating challenging or sensitive conversations, and to work effectively as part of a collaborative team.
  • Strong computer skills, including MS Office, internet research, and client management databases.
