The Job Coach/Job Developer is responsible for coordinating the promotion of the program and assisting with the selection of candidates who are eligible to enter the Mobile Application and Azure Cloud Developer program. The incumbent will be responsible for intake and assessment of prospective participants, facilitation of employment readiness sessions, providing support and conducting evaluations, working closely with employers to design work placement and pre-employment workshops. The responsibilities are to be carried out in accordance with the mission and policies of YWCA Toronto.

ABOUT YWCA TORONTO – WOMEN IN TRADES AND TECHNOLOGY
The Women in Trades and Technology programs provide training and employment service to women and gender diverse people interested in joining the construction, landscape and information technology industries. Programs are funded by MTCU (Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities) and are geared to educate women and gender diverse people about career opportunities in non-traditional occupations and train them in trades-specific programs.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Plans and implements all outreach activities for recruiting eligible participants for the Mobile Application and Azure Cloud Developer program in consultation with the Manager and Seneca Polytechnic.
  • Organizes all intake activities for the program including arranging orientation sessions, preparing intake forms, confirming participants attendance, verifying applicants’ documentation.
  • Works with the Manager and Program Coordinator at Seneca Polytechnic to deliver integrated and seamless services to participants, problem solves and implement all aspects of the program
  • Develops, organizes and facilitates the employment readiness components of the program
  • Identifies employers who are willing to offer paid or unpaid placements, including wage subsidies incentives.
  • Responsible for securing paid or unpaid placements for 75% of the group participants
  • Maintains records and compiles program statistics; prepares reports and correspondences and conducts follow up calls
  • Provides job development counselling, job coaching and job retention support
  • Overall responsibility for employer and participants relations including orienting employers to participants needs, mediating contentious issues, negotiating participants work experience placement

QUALIFICATIONS

  • In-depth knowledge of an academic discipline normally acquired through completion of an undergraduate degree in Social Work, Psychology, Adult Education or equivalent
  • 1-3 years’ experience in related field
  • Group Facilitation Skills or Life Skills Training required
  • Counselling approach that is flexible, de-escalates tension, teaches conflict resolution and is focused on success
  • Ability to work within an anti-oppression, feminist framework
  • Ability to deliver culturally sensitive services in a multicultural environment
  • Application of strong judgment skills to evaluate employer/participant suitability
  • Demonstrated ability to work under pressure
  • Ability to handle crisis situations effectively both in person and by telephone
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel e-mail, Internet, and video conferencing platforms such as Zoom or Teams
  • Ability to maintain a positive approach and a professional manner at all times
  • Access to a motor vehicle with a 2 million liability - an asset
