Role Summary:
The JEDI Committee Chair is responsible for advancing Terra Elysium Foundation’s commitment to justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion (JEDI) across all areas of governance, programming, policy, and engagement. This role supports the creation of accessible and inclusive systems that reflect the diverse communities we serve and ensures that equity is not only a value, but an embedded and consistently applied practice across the organization.
This includes reviewing policies and programs for inclusivity, staying informed on relevant legislation (such as the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act), and identifying partnerships or practices that align with intersectional justice frameworks.
Key Responsibilities:
- Advise the board and executive team on inclusive practices and JEDI-related best practices
- Support the integration of accessibility and equity principles into programming, communications, and policy
- Monitor compliance with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) and similar frameworks
- Collaborate with the Governance Committee Chair and Human Resources Manager to ensure equitable recruitment and onboarding practices
- Work closely with the Knowledge Mobilization Manager to ensure that community engagement and storytelling reflect inclusive and representative perspectives
- Recommend tools, training opportunities, or external organizations that support Terra’s equity goals
- Review and advise on community-facing materials, program plans, and outreach strategies from a JEDI lens
- Provide input on accommodations, inclusive communications, and support systems for diverse board and team members
- Serve as a resource and internal advocate for ongoing reflection and growth in a justice-centred organizational culture
- Identify gaps, risks, or opportunities related to equity and accessibility, and provide recommendations for continuous improvement
Collaboration & Support:
The JEDI Committee Chair collaborates closely with the Knowledge Mobilization Manager, Governance Committee Chair, and Executive Director. The role works across departments and programs to ensure Terra Elysium Foundation models equity and accessibility in both internal practices and public-facing work.
