
IT Specialist (Contract from Feb, 2026 until March 31, 2027)

Job Title: IT Specialist (Contract from March, 2026 until March 31, 2027)
Work location:
IRC and other CICS services locations and various itinerant locations in GTA.
Team: IT
Hours: 35 hours per week; required to work regular hours in evenings, Saturdays and some holidays
Salary Range: $53,344-- $58,313 (prorated)
Current Rate: $29.31 per hour
Status: Unionized
Position Overview: This position shall provide technical and administrative support in IT and all related functions within and external to the Agency. Incumbent is required to provide leadership role to other members of the IT Support Team. Supervision and management of volunteers and summer students is an essential component of this job function which can pave the way for an IT management position. Other activities will include limited operational supports such as telephony, computer and furnishing inventory and maintenance.
Duties and Responsibilities:
End User support
- Log, and resolve and prioritize work orders and trouble tickets
- Fulfill service requests and document problems and resolutions in problem management
- Provide technical leadership in resolve hardware including printers, laptops, desktops, telephone and all associated peripherals, network, and software problems
- Conduct End user training
System Maintenance
- Provide assistance and support to the systems administrators
- Troubleshoot, resolve, and develop workarounds to complex and reported hardware and software issues
- Perform hardware, firmware, and software upgrades to workstations and servers, including operating systems and applications
- Analyze all System messages, and follow problem determination procedures
- Maintain systems security and perform system back-up procedures and ensure back- ups are completed successfully
- Maintain all IT software licensing information
- Maintain appropriate inventory levels for equipment and accessories
Documentation
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of all operational, security and emergency procedures
- Support knowledgebase maintenance and distribution
Administration
- Provide leadership in communication by keeping the management abreast of critical issues, development and implementation of technical activities that affect or impact on the operations
- Manages project, supervises and coordinates work of contractors according to agreed financial terms and to do follow-ups on any deficiencies.
- Provide inventory management for all IT related equipment, including disposal of assets.
- Ensure total communication pertaining to end user notification and updates
- Establish software usage and network policies and procedures regarding access methods, access contents, security validation checks, and documentation
- Work with team members on proposed and on-going project related investigations and proposals
Operational
- Responsible for maintenance, enforcement, and audit of systems and infrastructure security, security procedures and protocols
- Monitor and respond quickly to newly identified security threats
- Ensure facility protection is not compromised in Agency owned or leased facilities
- Ensure efficient operation and maintenance of security systems, including access control, intrusion detection, and CCTV. Reports all system failures to the Executive Director
- Responds to investigates and reports to the Executive Director all incidents, including but not limited to all thefts, vandalism and unauthorized activities

Network Operations:
- Manage, maintain, and support enterprise LAN, WAN, WLAN and VPN infrastructure
- Deploy, operate and troubleshoot SSL VPN, VXLAN, CAPWAP and related network technologies
- Configure, maintain and troubleshoot network switches and wireless access points
- Monitor network performance and resolve latency, packet loss, bandwidth and connectivity issues
- Plan, implement and support infrastructure and network upgrades, expansion and optimization
- Develop, implement and monitor system and network performance standards
- Network Security:
- Demonstrate professional level understanding of network security and protection architectures
- Participate in the design and implementation of network security strategies, including:
- Network segmentation and isolation
- Firewall, VPN and access control policies
- Possess front-end, back-end, and database software development and experience
- Understand full-stack application architectures, development workflows, and runtime environments
- Familiar with API design patterns and service-oriented architectures
- Have hands-on experience with relational and non-relational database design, development and performance tuning
- Good understanding of Network solutions including Routers, Switches, QoS, MPLS, TCP/IP
- Proficiency in MS Teams, SharePoint, Adobe Photoshop; knowledge of software development languages, local area network technology, Microsoft products, SQL, web design, etc.
- Knowledge of Cloud Phone platform administration and management
- Good understanding of the SIP protocol, Microsoft Windows server operating system and related products, VM ware
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field preferred.
- In lieu of formal education, incumbent must have a minimum of 5 years of directly applicable, progressively responsible experience in a technical environment with key strengths in user support and administrative role
- Strong experience in IT infrastructure, network operations, and enterprise networking
- Solid understanding of network security principles and protection mechanisms
- Practical experience in front-end, back-end, and database software development
- Ability to analyze, troubleshoot and resolve complex cross-domain technical issues
Additional Requirements
- Experience in the non-profit/community services sector
- Ability to communicate and support staff and users with positive energetic attitude
- Ability to take initiative and be a strong self-starter who takes responsibility and is accountable for actions/decisions
- Working knowledge of another language would be a strong asset
- Flexibility regarding assigned work hours and location, willing to work some evenings and/or weekends
- Valid driver’s license and a reliable vehicle
