Reporting to and working closely with the Executive Director, Human Resources and the HR team, the Human Resource Manager is responsible for providing a generalist role encompassing all areas of the human resources function in keeping with the school’s vision, mission, and values. The Human Resources Manager should be up-to-date on all applicable employment related legislation and best practices in the field. The Human Resources Manager will be instrumental in providing an exceptional employee experience throughout the full employment lifecycle while at The Bishop Strachan School.
Who You Are:
- Collaborate on creation of and enforcement of school policies and procedures and enforcement of employment legislation rules
- Collaborate on employee retention ideas and initiatives to build an inclusive and supportive community
- Oversee the full recruitment and selection lifecycle for diverse school roles, including strategic planning, advertising, structured interviewing, and employment agreement creation, in collaboration with hiring managers
- Support onboarding of new hires and collaborate with the Lead Mentor on the Onboarding Program
- Employee relations including educating and counseling employees through policy and procedure concerns or interpretation and general work-related issues, trying to resolve issues at an early stage
- Involvement in compensation and benefits by maintaining compensation structure and setting salaries and salary reviews
- Coach managers on performance management concerns
- Cultivate employee confidence and protect employee data and information by maintaining strict confidence and safeguards
- Complete off-boarding / voluntary and involuntary termination process with leaving employees
- Complete exit interviews and ensure leave checklist is filled out
- Participate and engage in ongoing departmental projects and regular HR department meetings
- Partake as an active member on the Health and Safety Committee and ensures the processes are in line with the Occupational Health and Safety Act
What You’ll Do:
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or related field in a relevant area of study, or equivalent combination of education and related professional and community experience.
- HRPA designation
- Experience using ADP for recruitment, payroll and time management is considered a strong asset
- Strong working knowledge of all applicable employment related legislation as well as federal and provincial human rights and employment policy and legislation relevant to diversity, inclusion and equity
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and resolve sensitive matters
- Change management skills
- Strong technology skills – specifically Google Suite and Microsoft Office
- Strong listening skills and the ability to see both sides of an issue
- Ability to perform well under pressure and manage competing priorities
