About the Role
Procyon Wildlife’s Hotline handles hundreds of calls each year and is often the first point of contact for wildlife in need. As a Hotline Phone Handler Volunteer, you’ll play a critical role in ensuring sick, injured, and orphaned wildlife receive timely and appropriate care.
Hotline volunteers screen calls, provide guidance and education to the public, coordinate wildlife admissions, and help arrange transportation for animals in distress. Your calm, compassionate support helps ensure situations of concern are addressed quickly and effectively.

Volunteer Responsibilities
- Answering and screening incoming hotline calls
- Transcribing voicemail messages accurately
- Determining whether wildlife animals require care
- Providing advice and education to the public
- Coordinating appointments for wildlife admissions
- Helping arrange drivers for wildlife pickup when needed
- Ensuring urgent situations are addressed immediately
- Representing Procyon Wildlife professionally when interacting with the public
Volunteer Requirements
To qualify as a volunteer, you must:
- Be at least 18 years old
- Commit to a regular weekly schedule
- Be comfortable communicating by phone and making informed decisions
- Treat members of the public with courtesy and respect, as we rely on public support
Shift Options
- Morning Shift: 8:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
- Afternoon Shift: 2:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.
