JOB DESCRIPTION - HEALTH PROMOTION SPECIALIST FULL-TIME CONTRACT POSITION (1 YEAR) Black Health Alliance is recruiting a dynamic individual who has a passion for engaging people, promoting health and well-being, and has experience working on large scale health promotion initiatives focused on Black communities. ABOUT THE BLACK HEALTH ALLIANCE The Black Health Alliance (BHA) is a community-led registered charity working to improve the health and well-being of Black communities in Canada. We centre Black communities in defining the barriers and challenges affecting our health and well-being. We provide a platform for Black people to establish a common voice around systemic problems and we work to mobilize the tools, skills and resources needed to co-design and implement solutions that improve health outcomes. ROLE OVERVIEW Reporting to the Manager of Health Promotion & Community Engagement, the role of Health Promotion Specialist is to provide focused and strategic support to drive the implementation of Black Health Alliance’s community engagement and health promotion portfolios. Focus on Community Engagement and Health Promotion Stemming from the development of our 2022 - 2025 strategic plan, the Black Health Alliance is working to develop both its community engagement and health promotion models and portfolios. The organization will build on its local and regional success in Ontario, toward building a national presence. The Health Promotion Specialist supports the development and execution of the organization's overall strategy for community engagement and health promotion. Community Engagement The Black Health Alliance’s work related to engagement is focused on convening and collaborating with Black communities, both virtually and in person, amplifying their voices as it relates to their health and well-being, and building meaningful partnerships with communities in both English and French. Health Promotion The Black Health Alliance's work related to health promotion is focused on building and delivering on a model of health promotion, including knowledge exchange and knowledge translation, that is scalable, organization to organization, and focused on mental health, substance use health, and chronic conditions with an increasing focus on the social and structural determinants of health. Throughout our health promotion efforts we seek to

leverage insights from community engagements and our previous work to further address the impacts of anti-Black racism on the health and well-being of Black populations. ROLE SCOPE As Health Promotion Specialist your responsibility is to provide focused and strategic support to all aspects of health promotion and community engagement including but not limited to the following: Community and Stakeholder Engagement

● Convene, engage, and collaborate with Black communities, service providers, public sector decision makers, technical & marketing firms, and other stakeholders in communities across Canada

● Provide a clear channel of communication and coordination between Black Health Alliance and community stakeholders, including across digital and social media platforms

● Cultivate and maintain key partnerships to enhance and expand the project’s provincial reach

● Plan and execute engagements, consultations, focus groups with community stakeholders as necessary

● Communicate and disseminate key insights and learnings derived from community interactions

● Support the development of the National Black Health & Well-being Strategy Health Promotion

● Support the development of local, provincial or national health promotion campaigns, both virtually and in person, and across digital and social media platforms

● Support the development, implementation, coordination, analysis and evaluation of evidence-based health education programs or interventions

● Conduct and support studies, environmental scans, needs assessments, and research regarding health promotion and risk reduction

● Utilize innovative solutions and methods to enact knowledge transfer and exchange SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES

● Post-secondary education in health sciences, public health, education, social sciences, or approved equivalent combination of education and related experience

● An understanding of the social and structural determinants of health, anti-Black racism, healthcare and social services systems in Canada

● Demonstrated expertise in engaging Black communities, particularly underserved communities (children, youth and their families, 2SLGBTQ+ communities, communities who engage in substance use, etc.) rooted in lived experiences

● Demonstrated understanding and implementation of health equity principles ● Understanding of preventative health strategies and risk reduction techniques

appropriate for various age groups

● Understanding of current developments in the fields of health education, health promotion, healthy lifestyle risk reduction and lifestyle change

● Understanding of the principles and methods for training and program development techniques and design, and curriculum and training design

● Strong presentation skills and the ability to comfortably speak in client/project meetings is required

● Ability to navigate a variety of project management and digital product creation tools (Asana, Slack, Miro, Canva, etc.)

● Close attention to detail, the ability to prioritize and excellent time management skills to deliver high quality work for multiple accounts while meeting aggressive deadlines

● Excellent organizational skills; ability to plan and manage numerous projects simultaneously in a fast-paced, iterative environment

● Ability to engage in cross-sector coordination ● Experience in project coordination and gathering business requirements is an asset ● Previous work or volunteer experience in community development and social

advocacy ● Ability to speak multiple languages including but not limited to English and French

is an asset INFORMATION ABOUT THE ROLE Work Conditions

● Black Health Alliance is currently using flexible hybrid working model, where employees can work from home or in our offices

● This role will require in-person interactions with stakeholders ● The standard work week is Monday to Friday, some evening or weekend hours are

anticipated, 37.5 hours per week ● Changes to shift start and end times may be required based on operational needs

Salary

● Remuneration will be dependent on qualifications and experience ● Annual Salary Range: $66,652 - $78,120 ● Black Health Alliance offers extended health benefits and a wellness spending
