POSITION OVERVIEW

This Health Promoter position will support the agency by assessing community health needs and translating health promotion programming, resources, and materials into concise digital content for educational purposes. They will also develop, deliver, and evaluate inperson and online workshops for schools, community organizations, and other stakeholders. Additionally, the Health Promoter will support advancing sexual and reproductive health education and advocacy, with a focus on South Asian communities. This role is ideal for someone comfortable being front-facing both in-person and online, with a broad skillset in digital content creation.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Program Development
    • Using data collected from community consultations develop programming based on emerging needs and trends in healthcare, Including around sexual and reproductive health, amongst youth. Work with community members and agencies to develop strategies to address health issues and needs for youth impacted by health inequities.
    • Collaborate with community agencies to engage in a range of health promotion activities including workshops, groups, and projects.
    • Conduct regular program evaluation impact assessments and participate in quality improvement processes.
  • Education and Outreach
    • Coordinate all components of health promotion educational programming including promotion and outreach; preparation and facilitation; module development and evaluation.
    • Liaise with community partners to build and maintain positive community relationships.
  • Act as a resource on sexual and reproductive health issues for staff. externally with agencies and in community with youth and those serving youth.
    • Support advocacy related to community health needs, including participating in community forums and networks.
    • Support the development, implementation, and evaluation of health promotion resources. o Translate materials and resources into digital content to support new pathways to education and awareness of a variety of health issues, including sexual and reproductive health, for youth audiences.
  • Offer updates to website content as needed.
  • Other Duties
    • Assist in the development of funding proposals.
    • Act in accordance with PPT’s Vision, Mission, Equity Vision, Values and Principles, and Policies and Procedures.
    • Work in alignment with the agency’s strategic plan.
    • Demonstrate openness and responsiveness to emerging client and community needs as identified by the agency. o As it relates to this position, fulfill responsibilities outlined by the agency’s funders.
    • Attend the agency’s Annual General Meeting. o Participate at staff and team meetings and other activities/meetings related to the agency, as requested. o Work in support of the agency’s commitment to be at the forefront in the utilization of technology to offer innovative programming and services.
    • Participate in the orientation and training of new staff as requested by Executive Director or Manager. o Actively participates in agency’s accreditation process as directed by the Executive Director. o Actively participate in quality improvement activities and support a culture of quality improvement throughout the organization.
    • Contribute to a culture of philanthropy at the agency that may include participating in fundraising initiatives and/or acting as ambassadors for the agency.
    • Available to work some evenings and weekends as required. This role requires frequent travel across the city of Toronto which can include transporting workshop materials.
    • Other duties related to the role or based on agency need, as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • University or college degree in social services, health or education or 4 years equivalent experience.
  • Experience within and alongside South Asian communities, including lived experience.
  • 1-3 years' experience working in health care and/or community education contexts.
  • 1-3 years' experience in digital content creation. Experience working with youth from diverse communities.
  • Excellent knowledge and practice with anti-racist and anti-oppressive frameworks.
  • Experience working from a community development perspective.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for networking and working collaboratively with local agencies and community groups.
  • Experience in program development, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Knowledge of sexual and reproductive health issues affecting youth 13-29 years old.
  • Demonstrated commitment to Reproductive Justice, addressing health inequities,
  • Alignment with youth positive, 2SLGBTQIA+ positive, sex positive values.
  • Commitment to working cooperatively in a community-based setting as part of an inter-disciplinary team.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and digital communication skills.
  • Proficiency and experience working in a computerized environment and with social media platforms particularly, Instagram and TikTok.
